After playing some Witcher 3, I felt like it wasn't quite as good a "Game" as it is awesome graphics (my excuse), and relatively great storytelling. I missed the feeling of uniqueness and emergent gameplay that could sometimes happen in games like Baldur's gate etc. There was rarely a weapon that would change my whole strategy, never did some combination of random factors result in my death. And as others have pointed out, it gets easier and easier. I wanted a game that gets harder and harder!

I started to search for something else..

1st I tried to find out if something like Baldur's gate exists in some way or another. I like the fact that in DnD 2nd edition you can't hurt certain enemies unless you have a +2 (or more) weapon. I stumbled upon these ASCII roguelikes that are brutal, some of them with a very stiff learning curve, and a minimal interface. They quickly put me off.. (although im growing more and more ready for them.)

But then I found Brogue! It's easy to get into, very few commands, as elegant as an ASCII game can get. And it's AWESOME! It throws at you very difficult problems and tactical situations all the time. You die in hilarious ways, and it's quite a quick game. Well I never made it further than Depth 11 so maybe that's why.

It's well made in that the weapons and armors and general stuff you find is what defines your characters. You are forced to make due with whatever you can get. Try it, die and try again. Drink unknown potions not too far away from water..

Ok, so I'm heading off to Rome for my cousins wedding for a week. Yes people, be jelly!

Anyway, I love to cook nice things, and I thought to get as much food as I can with me back to Poland! (Here italian food is expensive, limited selection and overpriced luxury imports..)

I'm talking cheeses, salamis, pancetta, olives, sun dried tomatoes and other condiments.

Where should I go to get it? What brands? You have any favourites? I just expect to be hustled by tourist shops that sell me expensive crap, so I'm asking :P

I'm not rich, so I'm looking for affordable, but relatively high quality stuff. :)

This is probably not the best forum to ask this, but nevertheless, some of you might be sophisticated gentlemen well versed in the better Roman foodshops?? who knows right???

I'll take the chance.

From time to time, most often unannounced, we are streaming something from the development of M:BG.

Until now it's just me who have done it, but perhaps the others will also join and stream stuff once they grow some balls.. :D

So for me, it's most often me doing stuff in blender, and occasionally you might see a glimpse of the latest build. So most of the time it will probably be boring as fuck for most of you, but who knows, perhaps some people like it.

I think you can follow us on:  http://www.twitch.tv/meleegame   and get some kind of notification when the stream is on. Feel free to chat or ask whatever!

Kirby is of course right here. The thing lacking is the idea.. :P

You all know how lame I am, and even though I try real hard, I'm too fucking old for this shit!  :)  I don't "get" what takes off on imgur or other places. What we need though, is 10 or a 100 ideas for how we can present our game in 3 - 5 or 15 "shots" like this.

Game Balance Discussion / Dear balancers.
« on: September 18, 2014, 06:03:18 pm »
It's time to wake up and realize infantry is the bread and butter of cRPG.

You need to work on balance to facilitate infantry being able to have a good time on battle. Right now this is not the case.

Squeezed between the power of cav and ranged elements, it's getting exceedingly impossible to have a good fight. In EU people are flocking to siege, because they are sick of functioning like ranged and cav fodder.

I've been playing this mod for 4 years, and rarely has gameplay on battle been as lame as it is currently on EU1.

Both ranged and cav needs further nerfs. Perhaps we will loose some ranged players, but we will regain more melee players in return I'm certain.

Being shot and bumped to death every round is NOT good gameplay. Both the relative numbers and the power of those classes needs to be kept down!

Just make a decision: This is mainly a melee game. Other classes feed on melee, thus melee must have priority, and more power.

Cause right now it seems the goal is some kind of fairness, the result which is massive unfairness IN PRACTICE against melee.

I'd prefer an honest 2h/pole/shielder hero any day for the vulture-like gameplay which is ranged and cav. I think a lot of players agree.

Game Balance Discussion / Cav and long 1handers/nerf long 1 handers.

(at mw level, 36 cut)

In current c-rpg it is so, that some of the longest 1h swords are also the ones with most cut damage.

This is something 1handed cav has been benefiting from 4 years. With a headstrike and good speed they can one shot tincans, nvm everybody else, and because of animations have extreme range. This weapon is one of the main reasons 1h cav is so effective. Its length allows them to hit targets with great power in all directions around a big horse.

I think the longest 1h should not also be the one with most cut. There should be a rebalance of the long 1handers, so if you want cut, you need a shorter weapon. If you want length, you have to sacrifice cut.

It even makes sense from realism perspective. A cav sword is meant to use the inertia of the rider, not primarily to be a well balanced sword able to deal great cut damage on foot. It is probably heavier and more unwieldy than a normal 1handed sword when used on foot. It would be harder to deal max damage with such a sword on foot, than it would be using a sword designed for infantry use.

Added poll.

Game Balance Discussion / Buff katana stab.
« on: March 28, 2014, 02:29:43 am »
Well here we go again :)

Since new armor mechanics were introduced, the near useless stab has passed into total uselessness.

It's so risky trying a stab that it's simply not worth it. Therefore I ask for a small buff to stab, from 18 to say 20 pierce.
It would still be a weaker stab than all the other 2 handed swords, and 90% of the 1 handed swords, so I don't think it would suddenly make it more powerful and popular. (So I don't think the "keep katana numbers down" argument holds with such a small change)

The only people who actually use the katana use it for style reasons, and I don't think anyone else would suddenly take a liking to it.

That's really all. At this point in the history of the mod this is just fair I think.

Suggestions Corner / Crouching.
« on: December 06, 2013, 06:23:26 pm »
It recently dawned on me how awesome this feature would be.

* Cover: This is self explanatory
* Dodging: 1h cav that always aim for your head.
* In ganks: Crouch and let them hit each other. Especially effective against 1h left swing and generally swings towards the head.

If overused, it could be added something like if you get kicked while crouching, you always get knocked down, which you could in turn roll away..

I've heard some people say its impossible with crpg WB version, but is it really? Really really? we just got rolls..

Vote in the poll y/n!

IDK if this is possible, but I guess it is, since there are mods who add and modify animations to warband. Perhaps we need an expert in the field to do it well? Anyone know anyone or anything about animating for warband?

1h Stab.
Good that it was buffed from almost uselessness, but right now it has become a long range, highly damaging near-insta attack. I guess it is "balanced" to 2h and pole broken animations, but this doesn't make it any less of a pain in the ass. It's a tad too fast, imo.

2h stab.
What is there to say? IMO main problem is the duration of the attack that makes it abusable. You have to block down for a very long time to be sure not to get hit.

Insta-pole swing.
This is just as serious problem as the above if not more. You have very long, very high damage weapons like the glaive and GLA. It seems to me that if the ping difference is high enough, or the other player has his technique down, you cannot see the swing release until you are hit.

Other solutions to the problem that circumvent animation-fixing:

*Slow down the poles and 2h across the board. Especially the long ones.
*Nerf 1h stab damage
*Nerf 2h stab damage.

But having non-glitchy animations would really solve it the best way.

Suggestions Corner / Commander Chat for cRPG - Poll inside.
« on: October 17, 2013, 11:56:25 pm »
Ok, Paul would like to see if the playerbase is up for something like this. If 80% are for it, it increases the chances of it actually getting implemented.

Here is the idea:

COMMANDER CHAT

Visually would look like this:
(click to show/hide)
A. Give the person with the highest Team Win:Loss ratio (Not K:D ratios) on each team a special Leadership coloured team-chat. (Like, purple or bright green, similar to adminchat) The commander is decided at the beginning of a map.     (This is a score you get when your team wins a round. It reflects how good you are to help your team win)

B. With this he can issue commands with admin coloured text, and the players would be free to follow them or not. In the worst case, people will just ignore it.

C. If his leadership gives results, aka more wins than losses, his W:L ratio will naturally improve (as well as all players on the team), and his chance of staying commander gets better. If he is a bad commander with bad results, either because the team follows him or not, or simply bad commanding or tactical ideas, his score will drop, and someone else will quickly take his spot.

D. Being a commander is optional. Tick a box on the website if you wish to participate.

E. Leaving the game while commanding should result in a double loss to the commanders W:L ratio. (To prevent commanders leaving bad teams)

F. A commander should be able to give away command at the beginning of each round to the next on the list. The result of the round will affect both commanders score. (To give newbie commanders a chance, while still keeping the original commander responsible.)

G. The commander may leave during the first 15 seconds of a new map without hurting his score. (If you want to command, the price is responsibility for the team throughout the map)

H. Who is commanding what team is proclaimed in server message near the beginning of each map and round.

Possible consequences of the idea:

* We might see more organized teamplay like in the old days again. :)    (aka, charges work if done right. I've seen it many times wiping teams back in the day)
* People who aspire to become commanders, would focus on making their team win to improve their ratio, not their individual K:D ratios.
* People who would want to become commanders would most likely want to be popular. As they want people to listen to them.
* Assholes who wants to be commanders will not be listened to, therefore will not have a good commander score (W:L ratio). Asshole commanders will not exist in this system.
* This will idea will let commanders build real credibility supported by numbers. You can question him/her all you want but if he is commandeering, he has the best W:L ratio of your team.
* You could probably check your W:L ratio on the website, and get a clear idea if you help your team win or not.
* Most likely, popular clan players who help their team win will become the first commanders. But c-rpg have low enough population for anyone to be able to get their shot at
commanding. *If they are not for some reason hated or totally unknown among the majority.
* Commander heroes/stars might begin to appear if there will be trusted and smart players out there. These might boost morale, and create more an more complex tactics, as players
become more and more likely to follow them.
* Players might start to accept more complex commands once they have seen effective commanding in practice.
* Players might start to protect the commander, or attack enemy commander if he is especially dangerous.
* cRPG may change. To what, I think no one knows, but I think it would be better. The players that just wants to solo and decide what is best themselves will continue to do so without punishment.
* If it sucks, we can remove the whole system.
