Beginner's Help and Guides / Help with 1h/shielder build
« on: November 19, 2013, 12:10:03 pm »
A new patch, free respec and so many wonderful possibilities.

Here are the builds I've come up with:

Level 32

Health Points: 50
Attribute points:0
Strength:15
Agility:24
Weapon points:15
One Handed:184
Two Handed:30
Polearm:30
Throwing:1
Crossbow:1
Archery:1

Skill points:3
Weapon Master:8
Athletics:8
Riding:0
Iron Flesh:0
Shield:5
Horse Archery:0
Power Strike:5
Power Draw:0
Power Throw:0

Last 3 skillpoints either in shield or IF. With 3 in IF the hp difference with build 2 is just 3 hp.

Health Points: 59
Attribute points:0
Strength:18
Agility:21
Weapon points:11
One Handed:170
Two Handed:27
Polearm:27
Throwing:1
Crossbow:1
Archery:1

Skill points:1
Weapon Master:7
Athletics:7
Riding:0
Iron Flesh:3
Shield:5
Horse Archery:0
Power Strike:6
Power Draw:0
Power Throw:0

A bit tankier. Gain 1 PS and 3 hp at the cost of 1 athletics and 14 wpf points.

Health Points: 66
Attribute points:0
Strength:21
Agility:18
Weapon points:9
One Handed:155
Two Handed:24
Polearm:24
Throwing:1
Crossbow:1
Archery:1

Skill points:0
Weapon Master:6
Athletics:6
Riding:0
Iron Flesh:5
Shield:5
Horse Archery:0
Power Strike:7
Power Draw:0
Power Throw:0

Tankiest I would want to go. Compared to the first build I gain 10 hp and 2 PS at the cost of 2 athletics and 29 wpf.

When playing, I want to be able to hold my own in a fight vs 2h/polearms without being in a severe disadvantage. The extra athletics in build 1 helps to mitigate the reach problem, but in order to make it effective I would have to wear little to no armour. In a fight, 1 or 2 hits will kill me.
The tankier build will dish out more damage, but I might struggle to land a hit with a warhammer or broad one handed battle axe.
I'm a bit torn and a lot of the builds for 2h/pole I've seen have either 21 or 24 agility. I have the feeling I have to go 15/24 in order to be able to keep up with them.

What do you guys think/recommend?

Beginner's Help and Guides / I'm back after a looong vacation
« on: November 14, 2013, 10:17:41 pm »
So, I'm back from a rather long sabbatical (about a year or so ), but now I'm back and a bit lost.
I'm pretty sure a lot has changed and I can't even properly remember what my plans for my main were.

Anyway, here's my current stats:
Level 31
Attribute points:1
Strength:18
Agility:18
Weapon points:20
One Handed:154
Two Handed:1
Polearm:1
Throwing:1
Crossbow:1
Archery:1

Skill points:2
Weapon Master:6
Athletics:6
Riding:0
Iron Flesh:5
Shield:5
Horse Archery:0
Power Strike:6
Power Draw:0
Power Throw:0

Gear:
+3 Broad One Handed Battle Axe
+3 Long Dagger
+3 Brigandine
+3 Gotland Helmet
+3 Mail Gauntlets
Knightly Heater Shield
Warhammer
Espada Eslavona
Splinted Leather Greaves over Mail

I mostly played siege and I expect I will be doing that again. I like playing a 1h, fighting in tight spaces, defending breaches, etc. When playing battle I tend to follow the same playstyle and be in the thick of the fight.
As for weapons, I use whatever I like at that moment. Mostly my trusty axe, but I switch it out for a long slashing sword or stabby sword every now and then.

My biggest questions are:
- Any important changes I need to be aware of?
- How's my build for the current meta and what should I go for next, keeping in mind my preferred playstyle?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Game Balance Discussion / Equalize kicking in general
« on: April 05, 2012, 09:31:34 pm »
Allright, after spending some time in the duel server again, I got nicely reminded why I don't go there often.
It get's me frustrated to a rather large degree by several things.

One of those things is the difference in kicking ability between players with shield and player without shield. Since I'm a shielder I play most of my time with a shield and thus never kick unless I'm VERY certain it will be a hit (ladders/staircases/etc).
For some reason, you can't block while kicking when using a shield when kicking.
You can block while kicking when you're not using a shield. (Save the downblock)
This makes kicking for a 2h/pole without any real risk, while a shielder can expect to be hit when he misses.

My suggestion is to equalize kicking for everyone. If shielders can't block while kicking, others can't either or do it the other way around. Nobody can block while kicking.

I know it's a bit of a rant on my part, as it allready takes all my effort to keep my footwork right to avoid being outranged/hiltslashed and stuff only to get kicked cuz I had to step towards my enemy due to the short range of my weapon.

Beginner's Help and Guides / Level 32 1h/shielder build
« on: February 15, 2012, 11:04:39 am »
Ok, I've played many generations as a 1h/shielder. But now I have no further need to retire anymore and therefore I'm going to plan my build to level 32.
The builds I've enjoyed the most were the 21/15 and 18/18 builds. I don't like 15/* builds, as I don't like it when I need 5+ hits to kill someone and they only need 1-2 to kill me.

My favourite playstyle is being the defender. Holding the choke points, gates, gatehouse, whatever and I mostly play siege and occasionally battle. I plan on using either the warhammer and/or the NCS.

I've come up with several builds for level 32, but can't really decide.
Here's what I came up with:

(click to show/hide)

(click to show/hide)

I have a hard time deciding which one to take, but I'm leaning towards the 27/15 build. 9 PS and a warhammer sounds very painfull.
If you have other suggestions, feel free to post em here with a good reason why your build is good.

Suggestions Corner / Helmets and their colour
« on: February 09, 2012, 09:09:05 pm »
A bunch of new helmets were added, which is great. BUT, they are much darker than the plate armours we have (and the majority of other armours) and look kinda silly because of that.

Could their colours be adjusted so they match the armours/other helmets?

Suggestions Corner / Shielders vs ranged
« on: January 16, 2012, 03:48:40 pm »
The problem:
Shielders are supposed to be "the counter" vs archers/xbowmen. Currently they aren't. A few rounds last night made me terribly aware of this once again. Up to a point where there were 2 ranged left alive in one team and 3 shielders in the other. All of them were shot around/over their shield without getting close to the ranged guys.

In my oppinion, the only advantage of having a shield is you can block one couched attack with it.
Having an auto-block (as people like to call it) is not very usefull when blocking isn't really needed when you swing a great sword or a glaive. Hell, you can actually kill people when swinging a 2h weapon or polearm without blocking, but I've never seen anyone getting killed by a blocking shielder.
It currently looks to me, everything you can do with a shield, you can do better with a 2h/polearm.
I don't really care about all the rest, that's fine imo, but at least give shielders a use vs ranged.

I have no suggestion myself, as I can't really think of a way how to do this without increasing the forcefield on shields again.

tl;dr
Shields are pretty much useless when focussed by archers/xbowmen. Needs a buff of some sort to become "the ranged counter" once again.

Suggestions Corner / Polearms and shields
« on: January 15, 2012, 10:27:13 am »
I know this has been suggested before, but now we have WSE it might actually be possible.

Please remove the damage/speed penalty for polearms used with a shield with 150 or less reach.

This would divide hoplites into 2 categories:
Fast stabby ones with shorter reach and long stabby ones with long reach and a bit slower.

This would make chosing the warspear over the ashwood pike an actual choice.

Beginner's Help and Guides / Pretty mods
« on: October 23, 2011, 08:38:03 pm »
Hey guys,

I've been fiddling around a lot with the available mods out there to beautify cRPG, but I can't seem to get them to work together.

Therefore, I make this humble request:

Could someone put together the module folder containing the following mods:
More metal sounds
Realistic colours
Sounds of suffering
The alternative banner pack from Arked including the extra thingie to adjust the position of heraldry on armours

I've got the most problems with more metal sounds, I keep getting tons of errors and/or crashes when I try to install that.

Please help!

Game Balance Discussion / Internal balance heavy bastard and long sword.
« on: August 25, 2011, 04:59:58 pm »
Here's the stats on both:

Heavy Bastard Sword

weapon length: 105
weight: 2
difficulty: 10
speed rating: 98
weapon length: 105
thrust damage: 23 pierce
swing damage: 36 cut
slots: 2
Secondary Mode

5480 gold

Longsword

weapon length: 106
weight: 1.8
difficulty: 10
speed rating: 98
weapon length: 106
thrust damage: 23 pierce
swing damage: 36 cut
slots: 2
Secondary Mode

6660 gold

In short, for 1100 more gold in upkeep you get +1 reach and -0.2 weight (which actually is a bad thing considering weapon stun effects).

Now, let's compare 2 other weapons:

Persian War Axe

weapon length: 90
weight: 4.5
difficulty: 16
speed rating: 91
weapon length: 90
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 42 cut
slots: 2
Unbalanced
Bonus against Shield

4035 gold

Bardiche

weapon length: 102
weight: 3
difficulty: 14
speed rating: 91
weapon length: 102
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 43 cut
slots: 2
Unbalanced
Bonus against Shield

4876 gold

In this case you get +1 damage and +12 reach, with -1.5 weight for a mere 800 gold more.

Why does the +1 reach on a longsword vs heavy bastard cost so much more compared to the gold cost for +12 reach on the bardiche compared with the persian axe?

Beginner's Help and Guides / 1h/Shielder build. Can't decide! OH NOES!
« on: August 23, 2011, 05:03:15 pm »
Allright, there are 2 contenders for being the best 1h infantry build. I've played them both, loved em both, but I can't decide which I'll take for my final gen.

So, either 18/18 or 21/15.

Gear:
Knightly heater
Langes messer/steel pick/anything short that hurts badly
Heraldic mail with tabard
Mail gauntlets
Kettle helmet
Mail chausses
long dagger for style points

WHICH SHOULD I TAKE!!??

Following suggestion is only to be considered AFTER WSE implementation!!!

So, made that clear.

The suggestion is as follows:
2h Animations for sideswings and overheads, polearm animations for thrusting on all 2h weapons with a thrust attack longer than X (I'd say 110 range or so).

Why only after WSE implementation?

It should only be implemented after the devs are able to fix the polearm collision issues, polearm stun and other small bugs with the various weapons around.

What would this do?

Nerf 2h stabbing rance ofc.
Imo, there should be a difference between polearms and 2h in the way they're used. Right now the differences are minor and the balance is tipped to the favor of polearms (versatility, polearm stun, horse stopping) compared to 2h (less obvious animation makes them better dueling weapons).
In my vision, the difference should be:
2h - slashing weapons or bashing weapons (or cutting from the 2h axes)
polearms - poking weapons

To compensate for the now reduced thrusting functionality in terms of reach, there should be something done about the swing damage of polearms to make it more interesting to thrust with them. Maybe even increase thrusting damage a bit, but after this change, the polearms will have their reach advantage back for thrusting, while at the same time the reach advantage in sideswings for 2h weapons remains.

A 150 lenght polearm will now actually outrange a 120 length 2h sword while thrusting.

TL;DR - 2h Weapons should be slashing weapons wih some thrusting and polearms should be thrusting weapons with some slashing.

It's an idea open for discussion, I don't have all the wisdom. Please post here to help improve the idea or point out why it should never be implemented.
