Secondary shield (back shield) must block arrows and weapon hits.

Now its not realistic, i can kill turtles from back with arrow.

Make shields on back block melee hits and projectiles? Ok :D
This game isn't about being skillful as much as its about saying things in general chat that enrage people who then go to murder you but in their rage they make dumb mistakes which gets them killed.

They shouldn't directly block melee hits, it should be reduced damage with standard stun (0.1, 0.3 seconds)

Having it directly block an attack from behind is lame, for arrows yes, melee... No, just reduced damage will do.

each shield should be dynamic.  every sword hit or arrow attack should create a tiny notch/hole in the shield.  Skilled swordsman/archers should be able to see those holes and if good enough should be allowed to shoot/swing at the holes and score a free hit.

also half broken shields should give the user splinters that deal 1 damage every 5 seconds until they are dropped or until the shielder repairs his shield with adhesive tape.

Dont shields on the back already reduce incoming damage from behind, based on their armor?

Yup, shield's body armor + 10 is added to your current body armor as long as it hits the shield's hitbox.

Only works on projectiles though, not melee attacks.

Hhmm...you know that arrows very often did not stick in the shield directly with the top of their tip but usually went into the shield for a couple of centimeters (except it's a steal shield)?  Don't think it would feel good to have this fake acupuncture because of all these arrows going into your back for 1 cm^^

And about the hits.  I don't think it makes much difference, getting the hit of a sword/axe directly on your back or maybe of a more or less thick piece of wood on your back. The power of that swing would probably still break some of your vertebrae (those tiny little things in your spine/backbone) or make cause other nice fractures in your back, on your neck or whereever.

And actually wearing a shield on your back the whole time would really handicap you while swinging a big massive twohanded sword ;)

So much for realism

You forgot about the bodyarmour you wearing. I believe the shield would lower the speed of the arrow so much that it doesn't go through the bodyarmour itself.

True, but it would make epic scratches on your shiny armour^^

No seriously, how will you make the difference beween tunics, light armour (gambeson or leather), all the chain stuff and the heavy plates?

tunic it would still pierce or severely cut your back.
same goes for leather and gambesons, after some time the material would have so many cuts that the tip of the arrow reaches your back.

:/
