Diplomacy / Declaration of war: Liberation of the North
« on: July 03, 2016, 03:14:28 pm »
Probably the last war of Strategus round 6!

The Butans War Boys received the castles of Hrus and Chalbek from the hands of the Normands, months ago, who had successfully thwarted Northern Alliance attempt at removing them, but chose to resettle far in the east. At that stage, the major factions were still operational : UIF was rampaging the south part of the map, creating a couple vassals, sometimes annexing them; the Northern Alliance were in the process of integrating all the northern factions and submitting those who refused.

At a certain point, UIF started showing signs of dementia and Northern Alliance showed signs of increased autism. We, the War Boys, chose to prepare for war and attack one of the big guys when we were ready (started from 2k troops with only AI stuff ).
After a time, it was clear that there was only one opponent left to declare war on: the Northern Alliance. Their persistence in suffocating a Strategus that was clearly dying (and is now, debatedly dead) when there was near no sign of life left strenghtened our resolve.

Without further ado, we declare war on them.

We would especially like roster support from the traditional anti-NA, and of course that NA manages to revive their roster for the couple weeks ahead; we have lots of troops (thanks Obama Vovka) and gear (thanks everyone's S&D) to waste.
Support on the map is not necessary, but would be welcome, especially from our honourable friends of the Scum of Calradia.
Fiefs we will be able to capture from the Northern Alliance will be redistributed to minor factions if they present themselves to us (doubt there is any, but heh).

This declaration of war will be followed by battles from our part only after 5 days or so passed, to give everyone time to prepare and maybe drum up some motivating drama. We need it in the current state of Strategus.
I will make it so that all my members have a proper nighttime set in (from 1am or so on), I would be obliged if the Northern Alliance did the same.
Our attacks wont be plenty, but they will always be geared and at prime time.

The conflict will be restricted to this zone:

This is the kind of gear we have (tried to go for a mad max feel):

Here's to a couple interesting battles in the days to come.

Calradia, has fallen.
Where there was trade, conflict, and life, there is nothing, only an everlasting desert, no longer to be inhabited by decent folks.
Within the remains of society, a few staunch survivors still cling desesperately to life.
The War Boys are one of them.

The War Boys are the paramilitary arm of The Twin Citadels of Hrus and Chalbek Castle, guardians of the mighty aquifer of the northern peninsula.
In the wasteland called Strategus, they serve as Warlord Immortan Butan's servants and soldiers.
There are 4 ranks in the War Boys structure:

The War Boys skills revolves around scavenging for survival, extending their dominion ruthlessly but only to the point of self-sufficiency.
Though at a whim of the Warlord, all the War Boys could be compelled into a war frenzy that noone else could muster but everyone would witness.
Death at the service of Immortan Butan is a great honor, and a privilege, that all the War Boys warriors are ready to undertake, for they are all awaited in Valhalla!

Hello everyone, I am still powerless all-mighty Strategus developer Butan.

I wanted to start discussions about what kind of changes could be made on Strategus for a few weeks now, but I wanted a forum rank to make it more legit and Dupre gave it to me yesterday so here we go  :D
(click to show/hide)
As some know I have been prompted to join a strategus team that is made of me and Chy. Chy is the coder behind the STB add-on, I merely think of stuff and greatly enjoy the game even in his current form. I am sick like that.

I wanted to ask you what can be made to improve Strategus? At the same time I wanted to introduce myself and tell you my own answer to that question!

First, there is what the Strategus Tool Belt add-on was made for: heavily modify the UI
=> all the interface interactions that are used to properly run a faction, manage the fiefs and economy, run battles and wars or do lonewolf shit

(click to show/hide)

Second, but most important thing about the current Strategus: make in-game Strategus battles easier to manage for the factions, more interesting to join for the mercs
=> the Strategus battle application system itself needs to change so that battles are naturally balanced roster-size-wise, more rewarding for people to join and follow the flow

(click to show/hide)

Third, actual changes to Strategus mechanics: giving more options, modifying current ones
=> some things are good, but could be better; some things make no sense, and need to go; some things arent there, we could make it...

(click to show/hide)

There is probably a lot of stuff that in the end wont make it due to technical limitations, or simply because they are bad ideas in the end, and some other stuff might pop later and make it in.
There is also the real question of whether to implement all changes live in strat round 6 (and fuck up balance), or some of it, or none and wait for a new round?

I know some might see this thread as useless and strategus as dead forever, especially given the current circumstances, but I have faith, patience, time and a cooperative coder partner so lets go.

[RP] The Battles of the Hot Gates

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter.
A time to be born, and a time to die; A time to heal, and a time to kill; A time to sew, and a time to rend asunder...
Everyone can read the seasons, but only few can see through the fabric of time, and know that their time has come.
The time, has come.

The Wanderer King, Pogosan, finishes the last survivors of the village of Saren

There is trepidation in the men, while they conclude their dirty work.
The most distant trading villages of the feared Grey Bears are secured, without effort.
War between the Vagabond Empire and them is now a reality that can not be denied.
There is trepidation in the men, even glee... and a sense of apprehension of things to come.
These are only the first steps of the war, and the easiest; what will the future bring? Victory, or defeat?
There is trepidation, even glee... but also.... Fear... of what may come, now that the deed, is done.

Too late to turn back; the path you tread, must be trodden, to the last step.

The important trade routes to the south-west are now under the control of new lords, hostile to their past owners.
It is not only an act of war, but a blockade, with the intent of throttling the fight out of the warlike Grey Bears, busy in the Eastern Desert War.
So busy, it seemed, that they could not fight a two front war... or so they hoped.
Amid the victory cheers and the half buried corpses of their newfound enemies, a new order is given to the men.
The armies will not stop here, as planned previously. No.
They will plunge into the heart of their foes, due south, and deal as great a desolation as they can cause.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Far away, grey hordes of steel are annihilating the last holdings of the Knights Templar

News of the Saren desolation reaches far and wide, even to the barren desert in the south.
The war here is already done, only the bravest of the Order are still standing against the Grey Bears. Not for long.
Limited resistance is met with extreme cruelty; there is no prisoners here, only the slain bodies, and the complacent victors.
It is only a matter of time before the desert purge is complete, it is certain, but how could you tell, if you were dead?
There is no survivors to say how things stand, in this barren part of the Earth.
The Eastern Desert War is done, a new one already emerge...

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Desert General Vovka is dispatched with all haste to deal with the "beggar" forces in the west

Unknowing of those facts, the triumphant host of the Wanderer King Pogosan, marches on.
The morale is high, the men having tasted blood, without having to shed much of their own.
The blow they struck to the Grey Bears in their isolated trading outpost have wakened their lust for more.
They cannot stop until they have completed the mission they have set forth from: to consume the lifeblood of this dangerous adversary.
Trade must be denied, the flow of gold must be stopped, and by doing so, the Grey Bears will become the true beggars.
They will be destroyed; once, and for all.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

They march, again and again, past the borders of their enemies, and still there is noone to challenge them

War is easy, it is the waiting that kills. The vagabond army has entered the territory of the Grey Bears for many a mile, many a day.
Yet, no clashes of arms, no pleading of the conquered, no bestowing of large rewards. No honor. Only black earth.
The host begins to waver under its own weight: if there is no fight to be had, why are we here?
Their mind already poisoned, the soldiers continue to march, until one day they arrive at a particular spot in the desertic mountains.
To pass an army further, one would need to go through a narrow coastal passage.
While passing there, they spot figures in the distance...

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

"It is the enemy! The enemy is here! To battle formation!"

Did they appear from nowhere, all at once? Is it magic?
Only one thing is sure, it is that the might of the Grey Bears have found them, and they do not seem to be bloodied troops from a faraway war.
Innumerable fresh troops firmly place themselves in front of the host of the Vagabond Empire.
The soldiers prepare their defense, knowing full well now that their "invasion" was at an end.
In the face of the perilous threat, strategies are made so that the bulk of the army is saved from total annihilation.
They will use this sloped passageway to delay the enemies, while they safely retreat the way they came.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

From behind the vagabonds, another host appear and approaches at a great pace

The time has come, and now everyone can see. The wanderers are caged in the trap.
While a third of them were battling the enemies forward, the rest had split into two groups, trying to retreat.
They now had to deal with the enemies that appeared on their back, in front of them.
What had begun as one battle, would finish as three: the Battles of the Hot Gates.
It was a slaughter left and right and center, the wanderers were surrounded, blocked inside the narrow trail that had led them there.
Only one very small mercenary group managed to exploit the chaos of the battlefield and survived the ordeal: this all is their account of the events.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The Wanderer King is surrounded, shielded by his best men: they will fight to their utmost, but it will not be enough...

Everyone is dead, the King is lost, the gates to the Vagabond Empire are open.
Flee, if you want to live.

If you want to appear in the next ones, do something major, and talk about it! We will be glad to have elements to add to the report where and when we can.
If you believe you have been misrepresented, this thread is also the perfect place to speak your part!

Final words:

Calradia's villages have all but been subdued, only castles and cities keeping their rulers of old.
Mayhaps some would already have been taken down, if the ravenous new lords were not so keen at pecking at each others! Most especially due south...
The south is its own beast, and many old bears resides there. The rest of the world is blessed with not having to deal with them... but for how long?
Giants with feet of clay have emerged, new alliances are being forged, many of them untested!
Will they crumble at the slightest poke of the sword, or will they hold their own and make this dance a worthy one?
There is not a one in the realm that could tell, so let us wait and see what happens from here on!

This thread will contain all the various announced themes that have been/will be organised.
The EU_1 server will be the place for the public events.
The events will officially begin at 20.30 GMT, possibly last up to 22.00 GMT.
The events will happen once every two weeks. Check this thread to know when is the next one!
Themes can be one sided (themed fighters against regulars) or theme vs theme (event, counter-event).

We encourage people to follow the ideas, but noone is forced to play in a way or another.
The OdE started it, but all we need is players from wherever they come from, to support this regular bi-monthly event, so that it stays alive for as long a time as possible.

Now, place for the next event... (Monday 23th November):

No-shit explanation:

The speed on strategus is somewhat slow, but it takes into account the fact that your troops dont need to sleep at all. You can click "move" somewhere and just forget about it for days.
Its a kind of lazy gameplay actually  :P  but what if we implemented a stamina parameter?

Something that would simulate the fact that you NEED to make camp every once in a while, or your guys will move very slowly.
The exact formulaes/bonus/malus I let the developers think about, if they are interested in this. So dont take "my numbers" as the only possibility but just an example.

The principles that could be applied to the game would be this:

* the stamina would have 3 states : empty (0%), not empty (1-100%), in excess (101-150%) (read more for the "why")
- when the bar is empty, your movement speed is reduced (-50% to normal speed)
- when the bar is not empty, your movement speed is normal
- when the bar is in excess, your movement speed is increased (+50% to normal speed)

* when your party is moving, you are decreasing your stamina (marching in formation): from a "full" stamina (100%), it would decrease to 0% in 12 hours, half a day march (-0.13% per minute, -8.3% per hour)
* when your party isnt moving, you are increasing your stamina (in camp): from a "empty" stamina (0%) it would increase to 100% in 6 hours, a quarter of a day sleep. (+0.27% per minute, +16.6% per hour)
* if your party isnt moving after you reach 100% stamina, you keep increasing it (extra care): from a "full" stamina (100%), it would increase to 150% in 6 more hours, a quarter of a day over-sleep/care. (+0.13% per minute, +8.3% per hour)

I think it would implement a more realistic approach on when to move, when to not move, and begin managing your army like a real one.
An army march on its stomach.

Someone who would be "chased" on the map would not be able to run for days without having to slow down at all.
Someone who have fresh troops would go a little bit faster than someone who wearied down his army.

(the movement speed decrease/increase with crates/horses etc doesnt need to be modified, its actually pretty good, and combined with this suggestion it can have interesting results)

The problem I would see in this is that it would increase micromanagement...
The fact that we have no semi-automatic feature enabling players to order your army to do anything else than moving in a straight line, and waiting for the next order like stupid people doesnt help. We could benefit from having the option to plan your army movement and action; we could have a relay point system where we can tell our army to go point A then sleep x hours, then point B, without having to be there behind the screen  :P

[RP] Chapter 1 : Departure
(beginning of bubastan)

Almost invisible, slouched over in the grass, Buba ponder his next move, surrounded by the hummering of the wild steppe.
The multitude of his people have forsaken the horde, now prefering the lord's life, entrapping themselves like those they conquered had before them.
Because he sticked to the old way, he was now an outcast, with only his mount and a few loyal warriors to call his own.
Judged and deprecated in the tribunal led by their kindred, in front of a sheepish crowd forming the audience, they had been banned from the capital city for the rest of their lives.
Angry and sour over the wrong he had been dealt, ultimate insult to the tribes ancestors and himself, he now was busy processing what happened and what it meant for the future.
In the face of this new reality, there was much to revise: everything he had been taught and knew, was in question.

Night has come, and the wrinkled warlord still has to return from his isolation and rally the men.

Now reduced to the size of a poaching party, the morale of those still willing to follow the Vagabond was at its bottom.
Time seemed to run against them: the recent events had forced them to wander out of their home and leave their more placid relatives behind.
They were now without a banner to protect them, at the mercy of any neighbouring fledgling states, and their families would most likely suffer from the dishonor that had befallen them.
Thus shaped were the thoughts of the sorry bunch, when their leader slowly appeared through the fog of the lingering twilight.
Slowly dragging his arched back to the center of the campfire, scanning the surrounding faces, eyes ablaze with dark flames.
They froze as they returned his glare.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Advancing toward them, the soldiers steel themselves for whatever they will hear next, as if their lives depended on it...

And their very lives were changed in those instants, much more than what they could ever have anticipated.
If they felt pitifully awful before then, they were going to sense a change as deep as the ocean go through their souls.
"Let them keep their crowns, we wont be confined to any thrones of cold stone...", not many more words were needed to remind them the bone-rattling affliction they felt.
Rekindling the flame of their wounded pride, they were energized with more and more courage as Buba told them of what was, what is, and what will.
If they were to be doomed to live outside the newly erected fiefdoms, at least they would use their chance to continue their life as they used and wanted to.
Namely, reaping all the joys of life without moderation, making others feel miserable doing it, until their last breath went out of their mortal flesh.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The battle between chaos and order will not stop today, Buba's followers are but one pawn in the great scheme of history...

Aye, arent we all mere pawns?
Pawns that are born, dies, and lives in the middle?
This was the simple frame of thought of those now ravenous rascals, intent on not letting their destiny be changed by men that lost their way, and with it, their respect.
For the next weeks, they rolled like thunder down the hills, and properly ransacked everything that was between them and the morrow.
Many were the foes that were slain then, and terrible the impact it had on the population that was barely starting to settle down.
Local militias were sent against them, but the results were less than satisfactory.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The few times that there was contact between one another, the raiders just fled, leaving nothing alive on their path doing so.

Growing in merriment from their streak of success, they were running headlong into the action, anxious to add more spoils and fame to the small warband.
As impetuous and lucky as they were, they began to attract more and more disenchanted pioneers, who still strongly felt the urge to go back to older customs.
Thus they also grew in size, which enabled them to grow in ambition too, as the future would show.
At the bustling encampment, there was the usual banter of warriors willing to inflate their ego in front of their comrades, but there was something new.
People began to speak of bigger things, plans that would surely set them for life, plans that would also create uncertainties, rivalries even.
Such talks were tolerated by Buba, because he knew it would happen after a time, if ever they were still alive and strong after having departed from their past predicament.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

While the chatter of the night continues, pairs of unspotted eyes analyzes the small fortifications and surroundings...

Competing on who will shoot for the farthest stars, one can already note those who are the most dangerously audacious wannabe chiefs, and those that are most prudent.
While the men compared their companions's worth and their own, a hail of arrows came down on them, stopping their conversations short.
"To arms! To arms! We are under attack!", screamed the assembly, while rougher war cries from the outside menaced to drown them all.
And drowning they were, on blood and guts, and not solely their own, as the bewildered attackers found resistance where they thought there would be none.
Fast on their feet, weapon in hands, the raiders viciously counter-attacked and the battle appeared to be turning for them, as the opposition retreated and disappeared as quickly as they came.
The last lumbering foes were dispatched, amid the burning carcasses of tents and woodworks, and the men began to chant victory.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Was it really a victory?

Not the last to witness death and its many cruel variations, the bandits were still not prepared for this.
After the temporary ectasy at repelling the surprise attack that befell them, they were now starting to feel the real impact of the blow they had received.
Accounting the deads, they had killed more than they had died, but the cost was greater than all the raids they had done untill now.
Many friends, sisters, brothers, had died this night; if the survivors were doubting the state of peril they were in before, they were now deadly convinced.
Not helping to quell the spirits, was the marks that most of the foes bore on their shields and faces: they had come from tribes most of the men had been a part of.
Swearing blood-oaths above the lifeless bodies of their comrades in arms, they were now ready to deal with whatever and whoever would dare go in front of them.

Their newfound hate was set; their next goal, obvious...

The war of the steppe has begun.

[RP] Prologue : Chaotic times
(beginning of round 5)

The land of Calradia, a rusty old continent which have seen countless souls walks its path.
In a time long forgotten, warring nomads came from the East to this forsaken place, settled down in clans, which turned into states, which turned into empires...
Monarchs claimed the riches of the land, their unshackled greed had turned them fat, lazy and soft.
They had forgotten whence they came, they had forgotten their grandfather's names and heritage, they had forgotten their way...
The way of the warrior.
Time will teach them anew.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The dispassionate crowd mind his own business, without a care in the world.

The towns, the castles, the villages, were all bustling with shops and inns: trade had become a virtue, while the sword was abandonned.
In their cities of silk and sin, the temples were full of cunning priestlings, selling paradise for simple coins...
The population did not see through the veil of this everyday blindness that they called reality.
Incapable of remembering their past twinkling fame, they were equally powerless to defend their home from the incoming wild tribes.
As a horde, they came from the East, as their forefathers did before them, a blight to the land, they ravaged everything.
Crowns won by heritage, were now won with blood, and they would not have sold them, even for promises of valleys filled with gold.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The unprepared citizenry meet up with an unnecessary hollow death, the rest can only run for their lives...

First, the unfortified villages were overrun, and its denizens massacred, with a select few being enslaved in the dreadful armies.
The once prosperous and peaceful grasslands were now burnt to the ground, the countryside was ripe with crime, plunder and war cries.
The devious warlords appeared as if they came from nowhere, and had invaded the whole known territory in a matter of days.
Then, refugees and survivors from the slaughters came to the gates of the surrounding walled castles and cities.
Here they would make their stand.
Here they would die in even bigger heaps.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Hastily formed, untrained militia can only do so much against hardened warriors: resistance is weak, even futile.

Except for a handful of besieged fortifications and other dominions that still resisted the unrelenting assaults of the warring tribes, every city states had crumbled.
The war of civilization against barbarianism had undergo a full turn of the clock in a matter of weeks, and barbarians had once again triumphed.
Did they knew they were a part of the never-ending cycle of history? Let philosophers brood over this question.
They had invaded, they had conquered, they were still alive, while their foes were dead: and they were content.
Some of them were so content, that they already started to settle down, to build new walls on top of the broken ones, to drink the wine of life, one gulp at a time...
Others were not of this opinion, their way of life could not be changed, they would die as they were born, restrained by no bounds, be them bounds of chains, or bounds of laws.

Not the best person to cross by the streets at night...

Some of them were not content and had plans of their own, and one of those people was Buba, the Vagabond...

Since Strat 5, we have that brand new feature :

  • Repairing items: use spare parts of 3 items to create the same item of a higher tier

A nice addition, but I will tell why its 90% useless at the moment.

After a battle, the items that you have used are degraded:

- a part of them will have -1 debuff
- a part of them will have -2 debuff
- a part of them will have -4 debuff

The repair feature works this way : if you have an item to a high rank in your inventory, and multiple similar items of lower ranks, you can merge those to the next rank level, up to the best level you have in your inventory.

Example:

- you have 1 axe +3
- you have 1000 axe -2
- you can merge those 1000 axe in the next rank, up to +3

Problem : the merge works like this :

To have +1 rank, you lose 66% of the total stuff, in my example, to go to -1 rank, you lose 666 fucking axes.
Then, with the 333 -1 remaining axes, to go to +0 rank, you lose 66% more.
Then, with the 111 +0 remaining axes, to go to +1 rank, you lose 66% more.
Then, with the 37 +1 remaining axes, to go to +2 rank, you lose 66% more.
Then, with the 12 +2 remaining axes, to go to +3 rank, you lose 66% more.
Congratulations, you have 4 axe +3, from the 1000 damaged stack you had at the beginning.

Not to add that, all weapons/armours can be sold at -80% of their value.
If you had sold the 1000 -2 axes, you could then buy 200 axes +3 (if the price is the same).

The only case where the repair function is useful, is when you need to up the rank by only 1, and it cost already double to merge on 2 ranks! Because losing 66% of the stack is a bit better than selling to -80% and using the money to buy the same item at +1 rank, and merging on 2 ranks means having a -90% value/stack number already.

In most conditions, the repair function is mathematically a bad idea.

Propositions:

- buff the repair % to a better level, something like losing only 25%-50% of the initial stack in the merge to +1 rank, instead of the actual 66%.
AND/OR
- make the items go to the "maximum available rank level" in one go (from -4 to +3 at maximum), instead of having to merge +1 to +1 to +1, losing 99.9% of the items in the process.

It would give more room for the repair function to be economically viable and factions will start using it.

14
Just a though: like in siege battles attack win, why couldnt tickets in a field battles/defensive win siege battles dont go to the winning side after the flags are captured? Instead of being completely erased from the existence of the map.

Diplomacy / GO, DRZ, Kapikulu are Embraced
« on: April 10, 2014, 03:48:54 pm »
From now on, GO, DRZ and Kapikulus
You are embraced, in the fullness of my consideration, I will see you and all the others.

1) I will attack or defend your fiefs or armies, depending on how I feel
2) I will defend the AI fiefs you are taking or be on the roster of factions who would attack you or apply for your rosters instead, whomever you would attack, because why not?
3) When you attack my fiefs or armies, you will find as much resistance as possible. For me it will be as if someone was trying to play strategus. If you would in this way delete me from the map, I will return and kick you in the balls as hard as I can
4) I will take you on my roster in the case I would fight others, or will accept players with Pseudonyms, so that people see I dont care that much
5) I will talk and sometimes add to friendlist, clan leaders and diplomats of DRZ, Grey Order and Kapikulu (and other people too); you had your accidents, plenty of them, but I will always be here for you

Those clan leaders who would put a *embraced* below this topic, state by that, they do the same as i do. ( guess anti-UIF will do that too to be funny people  ... you are my friends too, remember? :) )

This is like including everyone in a game inbetween strangers, who all want to play together! Come with me, caress me, you will get XP, you will get satisfaction, we will wank together.

On my map, UIF does exist; GO, DRZ, Kapikulus, does exist.

I'm not preparing another topic, I will not start a discussion on rules of engagement for those clans who dont think like me, even though I care about the opinions of other people and what they would have to say on such a topic, it is quite clear they may or may not be inclined to change. Well us others dont bother much.

Every clan members answering in this thread will be considered, just to make it perfectly clear, I am content with you, this topic was open for 12mn  in my browser before I send it and I spoke with noone (except Uther and Darko but they are useless people) and my opinion only concern myself. It is not a war declaration, it is considering you as you consider us, which may turn out to be despairing, but heh thats strat.
