Features which will differentiate Melee from Warband/cRPG?
Has Fin got enough beer?
When will I be able to get a forum feather / will I be able to get one since I was unable to support last time :(
Will you be able to pick up shot arrows that didn't hit anyone?
Will pikes and weapons in general function as physical objects when not doing attacks or blocks, as in will you be able to hold people back with a pike? Did you devise a way yet to make stab focused weapons more functional by making them harder to block than in Warband?
So, most of you probably know, those that don't: We are working on a standalone game, a spiritual successor to cRPG, called Melee: Battlegrounds. We are now at a point where we feel comfortable with sharing information about what we did, what we will do, etc.
So here we are, ask whatever question you want, I'll answer them as satisfying as possible.
What are your plans/hopes that new players won't get frustrated when they fight against us oldmy old friends with years of experience in a similar game?
I'm kind of curious how the transition is going to be going from warband's 4 block/attack directional to a *360* directional system and how fast everyone is going to pick it up OR if it is going to be like a noob fest from the start except for those of you that are currently testing.
Also that backer icon, can we have both?
Will there be something similar to strategus? (pls slap me with a huge fishboat if its already stated somewhere)We have something planned, but it will not be part of the initial game.
Will there be a real map editor except stronghold?
How can we help out in developing right now? (People who did not donate money when the time was right)
How can we help out in developing right now? (People who did not donate money when the time was right)
You'll be able to back M:BG on Kickstarter soon.
Weather effects?
Will archery's mechanics different from cRPG ? By this, I mean implementation of wind, arrows's weight, etc ...
What are your plans/hopes that new players won't get frustrated when they fight against us oldmy old friends with years of experience in a similar game?
How much will stanima affect gameplay?
Will there be a real map editor except stronghold?yes. we are currently working with a temporary one. once we have the time we'll create a "good" one.
Are recent balancing changes (nerf) made in crpg indicative of how you will plan to treat/balance/favour/punish certain classes in M:BG?No. Not at all.
when do you expect to start implementing game systems necessary for Epic game mode?#1 M:BG first
Also that backer icon, can we have both?
I'm a big fan of stamina as an idea, but it's all in the execution.
Also, another question: Is it still planned to have Stronghold as first game mode available?
Max size of battles? 100 vs 100 plsMax is more than that. but 100vs100 is what we're aiming for as a good average.
Will there be mounted ranged?there will be different classes, and in a way, there will be mounted ranged
Are you willing to outright permaban certain players and online organizations that are notorious for their bad behavior in online communities? This is very important, because EVE Online community has been ruined by Goons, Star Citizen community is their next target. They tend to prefer space games, but it would be nice to know your stance on this. Will you tolerate them because of the extra income, despite the fact their abusive behavior has negative impact on particular game's community and tendency to drive casual/normal players away from that game/community?
In other words, what is your moderation policy for M:BG. Will it be trollzy cRPG kind, where we can do whatever we want pretty much, which is also the reason why many people don't stick around for more than few days? Or you'll take more serious business approach when dealing with grieving and exploiting by certain/notorious groups of online gamers?

My Question wasnt about money, but the opportunity to take part in discussions about game development. Old players with alot of experience could give some more ideas or show up problems in this and that mechanic. Most oldmy old friends already supported the game, I guess...
Will the Siege be at least somewhere close to realism ? Right now Siege mode is a joke but will Castle/Village maps be more suitable for a proper siege ? Will you be able to throw stuff at the attackers, like rocks and boiling oil and then burn them with arrows once they're all moisturized ? In an open field battle will you be able to make a hand-made spike wall formation to counter cavalry or maybe have a few guys spill some oil in a line and then archers set it on fire in the moment of enemy troops passing over ? Will there be quicksand to drown in ? Muddy/sandy/snowy terrain ? Winter/summer seasoned maps ? Will there be underground & underwater ? Will there be critters when you fight in natural environment ? Will you be able to use natural environment/objects/etc to your advantage if you fight near them ?
you will have to relearn. It's a similar experience, but you cant pull off the same tricks.

If there wasn't that question, I want to ask:
Will be our chars(looms, gens, gold) transfered to the game?

Roughly how long until those who don't have their beautiful feather badges get a chance to try out the engine? 3-months? 6-months? A year? Tomorrow?
Will there be any (decent) AIs/bots available?
How can we help out in developing right now? (People who did not donate money when the time was right)More info on that very soon
How effective will team play (ganking) be in M:BG?
What's your armor system like? Will cutting edge weapons be likely to bounce off plate?
And will damage be calculated like warband with random chances? Will there be "critical" hits based on luck or weapon/armor/hitbox location? We try to keep luck out of the game as much as possible, if not entirely.
If weapons are physical objects, than two people attacking each other in certain ways should cause their weapons to collide.Weapon collisions are in, working, and they are pretty cool

Will the Siege be at least somewhere close to realism ?
> No. Realistic sieges are no fun.
Right now Siege mode is a joke but will Castle/Village maps be more suitable for a proper siege ?
> too generic to answer
Will you be able to throw stuff at the attackers, like rocks and boiling oil and then burn them with arrows once they're all moisturized ?
> yes, except the setting on fire part - thats doable, but I'm not sure if it's realistic and/or good for gameplay
In an open field battle will you be able to make a hand-made spike wall formation to counter cavalry
> yes, definitely
or maybe have a few guys spill some oil in a line and then archers set it on fire in the moment of enemy troops passing over ?
> sounds interesting, should be doable
Will there be quicksand to drown in ? Muddy/sandy/snowy terrain ?
> probably not, at least not with gameplay influence
Winter/summer seasoned maps ?
> haven't thought about it
Will there be underground & underwater ?
> underground: probably not in M:BG, but most likely in the strategus-like spinoff (later). underwater, no, doesnt seem to make much sense
Will there be critters when you fight in natural environment ?
> dont think so
Will you be able to use natural environment/objects/etc to your advantage if you fight near them ?
> more information needed
1. What world will the game be set in? Will it be medieval Europe, Calradia or something else entirely?
2. About horses - will anything change significantly about the mounted combat? E.g will you have to avoid hitting your own horse, will horses act more "smart" and "on their own" like fleeing in fear? Also - camels please?
Will there be something like looms(reward for playing) ?And why reward for playing? :?
Will there be something like looms(reward for playing) ?We will have a similar system, but with more options. You can specialize and customize an item. Specialization allows you to improve an aspect of an item, but it will always come with a trade-off (e.g., increasing the armor will also increase the encumberance). Customization allows you to change the look of an item (e.g., making it heraldic).
Will M:BG have persistent characters that level up like crpg or will it have everyone on equal footing like Native Warband?Yes, but like the items we plan to allow only specialization. Everyone starts from one of the basic builds and can then specialize as he progresses.
And why reward for playing? :?
lets be serious. we all were addicted to looms at the start of crpgNo. And many 1 level generation players are evidence of it.
No. And many 1 level generation players are evidence of it.
Will the Siege be at least somewhere close to realism ?
> No. Realistic sieges are no fun.
I recon we can live with that.
Right now Siege mode is a joke but will Castle/Village maps be more suitable for a proper siege ?
> too generic to answer
I think that the current Siege is more generic than my question.
Winter/summer seasoned maps ?

Will there be underground & underwater ?
> underground: probably not in M:BG, but most likely in the strategus-like spinoff (later). underwater, no, doesnt seem to make much sense
True dat.
Will there be critters when you fight in natural environment ?
> dont think so
I think I'm gonna cry.......I was hoping for some random boar's help during my random duel with some spammer on the edge of the woods now and then........ :(
Will you be able to use natural environment/objects/etc to your advantage if you fight near them ?
> more information needed
Was thinking in the line of......lets say......a fleeing archer (quite a natural thing in cRPG and probably in M:BG as well) runs among the trees and pulls some random branches on his way only to release them into the face of the enemy who runs after him, or..........two people fighting it out on NA1 near some random porch (where else would you have porches other then NA1 ?) and one of them (the one wielding a heavy maul or something) misses his swing but accidentally hits the pier holding the porch and it all crashes down on his/their heads...........or some random useless NA archer (because they're all skill-less up in the States) misses his enemy but hits a wasp nest above his head and executes a nasty swarm that helps him in his otherwise futile cause........or a guy running straight forward using his tilde key to look behind him (which is a kind of nonsense that shouldn't be doable at all in any normal online game) and as he "looks behind him" he forgets to look ahead of him and hits a tree/rock/water that kind of......stuns him, you know......
There better be a leveling system.
So the whole leveling system is going to be like c-rpg with the exception of starting as a peasant? You start with a fully fleshed out but very generic build. As you level up you can specialize it point by point (e.g., remove 1 strength and add 1 agility instead).
Can you retire?Yes, don't know about bonuses yet.
Do you gain an XP(or other) bonus from retiring?
How customizable are the weapons from retireing? Is there a limit if any kind? For specialization (stats) probably up to 3 times. For customization (visuals) it depends on the item, some might have more options than others.
update on game client?
Will it be subscription or one time purchase?
Will there be singleplayer gameplay?
One of the things that has always frustrated me on sieges is the way ladders are used. it seems like they are more like magical staircases than something you have to climb. Is there actually going to be a climbing animation for ladders or will it be similar to crpg/mnb?
Do you plan on treating clans in a similar manner as they are treated in crpg (i.e. balanced to the same team, custom banners, etc.)? Will they even exist? Will there be any changes to how clans are implemented?
(and yes the Keep walls are taller now)
Any thoughts on integrated voice comms?
as i know it will be something like crpg, and indivisible part of crpg is strategus, will something like that be implemented
We have something planned, but it will not be part of the initial game.

They will be pretty much the same as in c-rpg.Awesome. Melee should have a large enough playerbase to not have to worry about the majority of downsides that banner balance brings to us currently with cRPG.
I once read a post from cmp, if I`m not mistaken, that MBG will be mod friendly, does that still stand?
Awesome. Melee should have a large enough playerbase to not have to worry about the majority of downsides that banner balance brings to us currently with cRPG.It's amazing how many issues that cRPG has can be solved by having a significantly larger playerbase.
Also, are there gonna be built in options for tournaments and themed battles? We have a plan for a "Tavern" game mode where you can hang out to chat, trade and practice duels with some casual competitive stuff going on. Planned are ranked duels which are single-eliminiation style with 8 participants and optional signup fee/prize money. Also planned are tournaments which can be set up and customized by players to a certain degree (some options might be reserved for official events to make them more special).
I read haralds post, in which he mentioned that you will be able to customize your gear by spending loompoints (?) to improve certain things ( speed, damage, body protection etc etc) thus making every item you own unique. Will there be an option to recolour or add special accessories to your gear? The idea is that the shop offers only a basic version of an item. So instead of having all color/heraldic/visor/etc. variations readily available for buying they can be unlocked by using loompoints.

I can already see it a month or so into the game an average day server list will look like this:
EU1 (battle) 14 people
EU2 (siege) 42 people
EU3 (tavern) 78 people
It's amazing how many issues that cRPG has can be solved by having a significantly larger playerbase. Not just larger playerbase, but new engine (especially one created with modders as a focus) as well.
Dual-wielding or bust.
Ah hahah haha..
No.
at this moment I'm listening the great music at video with lot of pants on utube mbg channel
will it be in the game?
Not just larger playerbase, but new engine (especially one created with modders as a focus) as well.
Not entirely sure what that means :(.
Specify!
My question is, will Thomek be Admin in M:BG, I mean that guy is awful, he comes on EU_1 once per month and that one time when he's on if he's in a bad mood he'll ban you for nothing, in BEST CASE SCENARIO he will kick you if you don't start to run toward the flag the moment they show up.That's exactly why I hope he will be an admin. :D
if Your attempt to answer means that
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
=
then im glad that Krems useful atleast for something)
Why should crpg admins become M:BG admins aswell? Some of course to have some at the beginning, but there will be a much bigger player base with alot more people who could be better admins then the ones of crpg.Martin Luther Chris for M:BG admin 2k17!!!

Alright chadz, give me your honest answer, I'm ready for everything

On 100 vs 100 battles it would be a clusterfuck. Maybe the commander gets voted in with a poll like similar to something now in crpg and only he can use voice chat ingame? Dunno how this would be implemented just throwing ideas out there.
fin pls make music similar to erik satie. He is my favorite composer. Also it would be great for the really sad moments in game, like when someone clutches against your team 1v20
For the love of god have some decent official servers and no public admins on it. Give the devs admin to spawn funny stuff when they play sometimes, and leave the cesspool of neurotic autism to buggy unpatched "community servers" that only fellow-minded roleplaying/rule spergs use so we can all not play with them.
edit with actual question: hey someone talk about sound design please. for sound effects like combat or environmental or I guess labored man grunting.
What functions from the c-rpg website will be moved to be an in-game feature of M:BG? Will things like the marketplace, shop, mail system, etc. be part of the tavern server? Or will you still rely upon a website to do those sort of things? Or will you guys make M:BG heavily dependent upon a website, similar to how c-rpg is now?Everything will be available ingame, but we want to replicate some stuff on a website too where it makes sense (messages, marketplace, probably clan).
face customisationthis is all that is important in my life
Most important question can't believe no one's asked yet
will there be ride-able cows?
no lolstabs
And what about pelvis thrust taunts?
The idea is that the shop offers only a basic version of an item. So instead of having all color/heraldic/visor/etc. variations readily available for buying they can be unlocked by using loompoints.
I will resume answering in a few days, right now we have to focus on filming
Can we please voluntarily opt to have an obese character with a massive hitbox? Doing so would require ticking a formal agreement to never QQ about our hitbox size.
Let us take a pic of our faces to put on our characters like the new sports games please.
I guess that'd be a question mainly for the people doing the modelling, and how funny they find it. I'm weird so shit like that can increase my enjoyment 100x and make me buy games I otherwise wouldnt.
The important thing about obese characters is that they need to be an option, but the majority of the community ingame must still adhere to generic muscular or sexy female characters so that the few obese ones are still funny.
I imagine enhancing the hitboxes for them in M:BG would ensure no tryhards ever use obese characters, but at the same time it'd be a hilarious option for devs/admins to troll the dickish players of the community without banning them, perma-toggle the 'fatty' button for them.
Been answered before. There will be fat characters to a certain degree because hitbox is the same for all models and having fat char can be an advantage.
NOOOOOOOOOO! D:
Better yet.
Make character models reflective of peoples builds.
For example, agility whores will have very slim character models ingame, while 45 strength (if that will be possible) crutchers will have obese characters.
Heavier armor could also weigh down high agility based builds more because their bodies technically (with their pencil-thin feeble legs and lack of muscle) will struggle with the weight more. High strength obese characters would obviously just run even slower, adding to the hilarity. (Maybe you could even see their fat seeping through the cracks of their armor  )
Note: Serious idea for the devs (minus the fat seeping through armor part)

Can we somehow still gain an alpha access to help out shooting videos, testing things etc.?From my understanding, the Kickstarter campaign is just around the corner...

The idea of having trade-offs and compensate stuff might sound good at first. But trust me, those "rewards" are vital for rpgs. It's what keeps players addicted.
Will there be a mechanic like chambering is now?
Will there be a mechanic like chambering is now?
I hope we finally get some grappling or disarm mechanics, ringen had whole sections in historical fencing manuals.
Q: Some time ago you mention about austrian grant, what is the result ?
I dunno, i like the idea of this a little better. For the years i've played i've been an advocate for looms not making items 'better' but more unique, it allows more variation than just the best players getting better and better shit.
The meta is normally balanced builds, well if everyone starts with balanced builds and 'leveling' allows more and more points re-allocated it'll be the highest levels with the most freedom to make agi-builds or str-builds. It removes the benchmark grind to reach the totally generic build everyone else would use anyway. Again, i like that. You're reward is freedom to chose more diverse builds, not just a better version of the same build everyone else has.
Will it have in game voice chat??
What about actual swashbuckling? As in using the buckler shield to make it hard to read attacks? In fact what will attacking look like? Is it going to be the same 4D type bollocks or something new and inventive?
Currently there are eight attack directions I think... but why dont you just play? Game is working-ish if you want to smash bots, don't know if hosting locally is working atm but it was...
Q: Will there be any emotions? Like hand shake or dance? Shaking head with spamming RMB and hugs with fist hit are awesome but still.
I've been campaigning for emotes since the beginning, there's a ton of ideas for them and I hope we get to implement every single one.
latviano told me that you guys need some help with subtitles stuff. I'm from spain and I can help with the translation. Send me a PM ;)You should do the translation into euskara.

Will there be battle bugles and lines of trumpeters?
During the first half of the Middle Ages, music was found in the courts and churches of Europe but not on the battlefield. The Crusades changed that, as they did so much else. Impressed by the Saracens' use of military bands as both a means of instantly transmitting orders to distant formations and as a weapon of fear and affray, as Bartholomaeus Anglicus expressed it in the 13th century, the Christian knights soon emulated them. Among the Saracen instruments adapted were the anafil, a straight, valveless trumpet; the tabor, a small drum, sometimes snared; and the naker, a small, round kettledrum, usually deployed in pairs. The earliest mention of their use in combat appeared in Itinerarum Regis Anglorum Richardi I, a history of the Third Crusade published in 1648. In one battle fought in Syria in 1191, it describes trumpet calls being used to signal the start and recall of a Christian cavalry charge.
When veteran Crusaders returned to Europe, they brought instruments and ideas with them. As they were absorbed into various feudal or mercenary armies, the use of martial music spread rapidly. Such music also acquired new modifications, as different soldiers adapted it to their local tastes and practical needs. To the trumpets and drums were added shawms (early double-reed wind instruments) and bagpipes. Bands accompanied armies on campaign, played aboard ships or added their pomp to tournaments, festivals and other court functions.
What's the timer for?
I will - soon...
While I'm at it: Will you change your server provider for M:BG? If anything cRPG taught me over the years, is that people who were responsible for game servers are incompetent. Can live with it in case of a free mod, but won't tolerate it for a commercial game.
How are you so certain it is really the servers fault? I think it's mainly a Warband issue, we played on so many servers over the years and similar problems always recur and nobody can really say what's the error.
Will this game feature deployable ladders, like back in the old days of cRPG?
When kickstarter ends, will there be a official web site for the game?
Also it would be good to open a new site and make it possible that people still can support project/buy the game.
Will this game feature deployable ladders, like back in the old days of cRPG?
Guys, could you do us a favor and ask your game related questions in the KS page from now on?
comments, yeah. you can bring the default cRPG humor there (don't go overboard though ), lets have some fun there!
You gonna use this place as the Melee forum?
I do realize the url gives it away but considering this forum's "dynamic" at some times...

Sry if you already explained this, but i didnt find it. Since all attack angles are possible, how does stabbing work? Do stabs have angles? If so how do you block it?

where's Armpit when you need him?overboard
It may have been answered before, but is there any plans on including havok physics? I distinctly remember the difference it made between early beta WB and later versions.
Why not having special moustache in pledge rewards?
Also I would really enjoy replay mode where you can save round or certain part of it and rewatch it again for making films, getting nice screenshots and generally share amazing fights with other players as files. And I mean you have free camera roam mode and can see what everyone does with free camera mode (maybe add filters too )
I've got 2 serious questions for your Historical Researcher Zimke the Cranky (or is it Grumpy ?) but I don't think they're of critical importance for your project. Where should I write them in order to have the best chance to get an answer ? 8-)
For stronghold mode, is the world persistent, is there a building grace period and then no more building, or are you always free to build? If the foremost and last case, how would you prevent people from randomly building walls in the middle of a fight?
What do you mean by persistent though? Persistent forever? For 24 hours? Persistent throughout the round? I imagine it'd only be through the round but *shrug*.
I was thinking a more longish term like a week-month or so; construction/defending would have more meaning than a short term period and constant wipes allows newer people to get their feet wet without being slaughtered.
So chadz...tomorrow when you sober up from your birthday party please tell us what did you waste more: yourself or our money ? :PThe coke and the hookers ofc. Silly Gnjus.
Only on my shitty notebook now, so please bear with me if that question was already asked, takes ages to load a website so I cannot go through all pages of this thread.
Does a kickstarter package contain all of the contents from the cheaper ones?
I am considering spending a buttload of money (for me at least) so I just wanted to make sure.
Yes and no. As you will notice on the KS page most pledge levels are named. For example you've got the "Full Pack," "Digital Collector's Edition," and "Landlord Pack." The landlord pack has everything the digital collector's edition has, and a little extra. However, you also have certain pledge levels that include multiple copies of a lower pledge level pack, for example the "Squire Pack" which gives you one digital collector's edition as well as one full pack. So you basically get two copies of the game, with some extras. However, the landlord pack, which comes after the squire pack, does NOT include everything the squire pack has... it has only 1 copy of the game. Instead, it has more goodies.
And since I was oh so helpful just now and you're planning on spending a boatload of cash... this means you're gonna get the squire pack so I can be your squire, right?!?
What if the goal will not be reached?
they can crawl to paradox interactive and beg for publishing (i wouldve done this years ago lol)
Yeah, either that or just try to reach the finish line with less money, maybe try to kickstart again with a more modest goal and scaled-back plan. I don't want to believe they'd just pull the plug.
Let's not lose faith though, there's still weeks left on this thing and anything could happen.
Also 16700/3 is 5566 per day, they need 130000/30 or 4333 dollars per day. As long income is steady, it's fine.
Are you planning on adding a gamemode similar to Rageball in the distant future, or would that be up to the modding community? I think there is genuine potential there and no other game scratches that particular itch.
2 Questions:
1.) Is the Melee: Battlegrounds- Engine more demanding on GPU than CPU?
Mount&Blade:Warband engine is for example CPU and RAM-intensive. It has never stressed my graphics-card(nvidia GTX680) to its full potencial and was running on idle GPU-Core Clock.
Tried with 250. Cpu running fine, my gpu reaches its limits here (AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series). the CPU can probably take a lot more agents. When all Models have lods the GPU shouldn't be a problem either. Also it's unlikely that they will be all collected in one area like here.
Before chadz gives you an official answer I'll link this post so you can get general picture what kind of answer you'll get:
According to this, certainly more GPU than CPU bound.
2 Questions:During filming the Kickstarter trailer I checked how my cpu and gpu are being used. With quite a lot of bots (around 100 I guess, or maybe even more) my cpu (i5 4590) was used at around 50% while gpu (r9 270x) as in chadz case it rechead its limits. But the game looks really good already.

Team Deathmatch is just Battle mode
Deathmatch will likely be something in duel modes is what I would imagine.
