Title: Realistic aging ?
Post by: Kafein on October 01, 2011, 05:29:58 pm
In cRPG most chars are 45+ years old.

Quite surprising when you know that in the middle ages the average life expectancy was around 35 years. A little more if you consider that we begin at the age of 16 (mortality was very high under 10), but still.

What about a non-linear formula like :

ceiling(level/2)+floor(level^0.5)+15 = age

Nah.

I wouldn't want to play as an old fart.

Not everyone is like Gnjus.  :)

So you agree ? I suggest to make the char younger actually.

Ah, I do, then.

Unless I did my calculations wrong...

(35 / 2) + (15^.5) + 15 = 36.3729833.

Did I do that right?

(35 / 2) + (15^.5) + 15 = 36.3729833.

Did I do that right?

ceiling(35/2) = 18
floor(35^0.5) = 5

Your age at level 35 = 18+5+15 = 38.
Your age at level 30 =  15+5+15 = 35.

Why not.
But no more ceiling, floor and such. My matlab is way behind me.
I wouldn't mind leveling up without gaining a total year of age.

ceiling(35/2) = 18
floor(35^0.5) = 5

Your age at level 35 = 18+5+15 = 38.
Your age at level 30 =  15+5+15 = 35.
Why are the ceiling and the floor the same..?

Why are the ceiling and the floor the same..?

35/2 = 17,5

ceiling of 17,5 = 18

35^0.5 = 5,916079783099616

floor of 5,916079783099616 = 5

I use ceiling and floor simply because even if it makes sense, stating that someone is 28,65465139 years old looks retarded ( I should even say it looks "matlab" xD ).

Well doing that :

age = floor (level/2+level^0.5+15) would also work but meh.

at lvl 15-20, there should be a random chance of "mid life crisis"

the character will wear peasant gear in an effort to regain their youth, as well as possibly transgender clothing

They will also buy really expensive and fast horses which they have either no use for or cannot afford

integrate the aged-look in the face builder so it corresponds to your c-rpg age!

that sounds like a plausible suggestion and therefore has NO PLACE IN THIS FORUM

This whole thread is like... the only one with plausible ideas in this whole section.
