actually fun fact we do the same thing.
if a newborn has an apgar score of 2-4 they'll actually hold the baby by its ankles and slap its back to try to coerce it to cry and therefore start breathing.

if it has a score of 0 or 1 we don't do that because the baby is in critical condition and the heart has to be started first and if that happens then they slap the shit out of it to make it cry
