Just binge watched this yesterday, awesome series. The big battles look super silly, tho.

I dunno i think its the most realistic and cool shield wall battle ive seen in a long time and close to how its described in the books, it ended pretty quick sure but its a tv show i guess, It sure beats the shield wall fighting from vikings :D   I was actually really happy to see a proper shield wall vs shield wall <3 One wall broke and then disintegrated thus they died, i would have preferd the saxons to still move in a semblance of order and not yolo but heh tv  8-)
i make terrible warband videos! https://youtu.be/jUdVGIOuULk

Yeah the final battle seemed a bit daft to me in that Uthred jumped the shields and started hacking away but it took a bloody long time for any Saxons to join him. Seriously though I'd have thought the Vikings wouldn't be so stupid as just to stare and watch whilst leaving a big gap in their wall.

Hollywood seeping in. Tbh when they zoomed out on that last shieldwall vs shieldwall battle I was like what the hell, there's so much space around to flank and shit, why are they confined to shield wall? It's not like there was any ranged. Why didn't they use whatever cavalry they had to flank, for example? I have to agree with ptx on big battles.

It's a production of British television.  Hollywood was not involved, if that's what you meant.  The Danes did use their cav...to ride around in back and cut off the head of Uthred's woman.  They screwed up big with that tactic however.  They never counted on Uthred turning into a one man army and single handedly breaching their shield wall.  It does seem that British TV has been watching too much Hollywood after all.

I was sad to see Leofric die as he was one of my favorite characters.  It was good to see Odda the Younger get his though.

Mmm, disappointed that Wulfhere stayed a traitor in that final battle. In the book him and his men see all the Saxons united and try to switch sides midbattle to join the Saxons. If memory serves that's what creates the gap in the Danish lines and lets them break the shieldwall. But then the battle has a whole 2nd phase where the Danes fall back to a Roman fort.
Wow that would have been so much better and way more believable than them turning Uhtred into a 1 man army.

Man, what I love about The Last Kingdom is the pace. So much happens from episode to episode.

Yeah they get right to the point and not drag out episodes with alot of boring dialogue. If this was The Walking Dead Uhtreds whole sold into slavery storyline would have drug out to 3 or 4 episodes rather than the 1-2 it did here. And it was still interesting too.

Yeah, no kidding. One episode of TLK feels like six episodes of GoT or some other series.

Lindybeige is overrated as fuck, some (most) of his musings on combat are cringeworthy at best

Also:

Most of Lindybeige's criticisms in that video are retarded. "lol that guy doesn't look like a king, why doesn't he wash his face???" Because all kings have always been ponces....
