I like goedendag. It has nice stab you can use it onehand with shield if totally pissed by range and its fun knocking weapon too. Not so stylish, but go with the nostyle stlye and your good.
Quarterstaff is nice for duel and runners but not so much good in tight combat, i'd say.
EDIT: Also consider Doublesided Lance instead of Quarterstaff: no knockdown but that pierce is very much better. And its still versatile allround tool to fight any style you need. But shure it has some upkeep. Since it seems you are trying to go cheap maybe no alternative for you.
