Why the password in the first place though?

The more I think about it, the upkeep system just needs to be dropped entirely.  If you just reduce the amount, then it doesn't accomplish its stated purpose and becomes a pointless feature.

Equipment wasn't the problem in crpg anyway.  The equipment system is good and allows for a lot of variety, from squishy/agile to slow/heavy and everything in between.  The problem was the retirement system and lack of level cap.  Veteran players had built up stats that negated the penalties their equipment was supposed to have.  This is what broke the game, not the equipment itself.  We had too many veteran players running around in the heaviest gear and still attacking twice as fast as most of their opponents.

Remove upkeep.  Keep the level cap and complete wpf wipe upon retirement.  Reduce horse bump damage, forcing them to use their weapons instead of just trampling everyone.  Keep friendly horse bumps, but with a 15 second grace period at the beginning of the round.

That sums it up pretty well.

The funny part, heirloomed items are still a problem. Basically everyone who has a bunch of heirloomed items is still laughing. More damage, more accuracy, and none of the pitfalls. We really need a good player wipe. But unfortunately the powers that be don't think it necessary.

You could probably level 2 characters to the mid 20's in a day or two, and probably have more gold to show for it :)

Yeah that's what I thought, heirlooming bows is nice now.

Yeah I'm blind my bad.

Your downstream (which matters for almost nothing when running a dedicated server) is 20Mb/sec

20Mb/sec ~= 2.5MB/sec

Your upstream is almost 2Mb/sec, which matters the most when running a dedicated server.

2Mb/sec ~= 0.25MB/sec ~= 256KB/sec

Based on that thread players require anywhere from 5-10KB/sec, so you'd probably max out at/around 25 players. You'd saturate your upstream horribly and the server would lag to hell. You'd want this on a 10Mbit dedicated upstream in the least for 50+ players. So I'd say you'd want to have maybe 16 players max to maintain decent speeds.

Heirlooming makes all the difference in accuracy/speed these days. Those where probably heirloomed arrows being fired. I have nothing heirloomed and that seems to be the biggest problem seeing that I do shit for damage with a strong bow + bodkins. There really should have been a nice clean wipe. I can't even imagine how much rage a wipe would cause though ;)

Link to said thread. 2Mbit for a dedicated server is laughable, unless M&B's/cRPG's netcode is very, very light. Moreso that you'd even think of running on a residential connection.

2Mbit upstream? Lol. I'd say for 50 players you'd want 15Mbit in the least for decent pings.

Is it heirloomed?

It's not a learn to play issue. I did a bunch of tests last night. With my Kheg bow + bodkins it took 3 arrows to kill a naked person, 5-7 to kill someone in medium armour and over 8 to kill someone in anything heavy.

It took anywhere from 2-4 headshots to bring down a plated charger and around 12-20 bodyshots depending where you hit. When I switched to a strong bow it took a couple less hits at times but even with a 150WPF the draw/notch animation is slow and there's a good 300-500ms delay on your arrow actually releasing when you have max aim.

[ptx] Which bow are you using?

screenshot or it didnt happen

Was thinking exactly this. Unless he means he had 10 kills vs. the cavs 50+ putting him in the top 1/3rd of the board.
