General Off Topic / Re: Deadpool - (2016) Ryan Reynolds [HD]

Saw it, was meh. My opinion may be clouded by the annoyance of unfortunate seating next to a girl who thought every single thing in the movie was the funniest thing she's every heard/seen. I swear she was laughing more/louder than the entire theater combined, it was awful. I was very prepared for people laughing at the shitty parts, but not for this.

I was surprised. I thought we hit peak super-hero already. In comparison to other super-hero movies, it seems like a close second to Winter Soldier or X-Men: First Class, for me. Probably somewhere around number 5 or 6 in terms of craft alone. Certainly better than the last few super-hero movies I've seen.

I was more surprised with the audience.

In American cinemas, they typically label certain movies as 'high energy'. It's often a code phrase for 'urban', and I'm sure you can extrapolate from there. On certain releases (Step Up, Fast and Furious, XXX, you get the idea) they increase the amount of staff and security accordingly.

However loud those movies might get, they were nowhere near the amount of 'audience participation' I experienced today. It was an eye-opener. There were people in costume.

 I heard the whole movie theater did a Kamekameha during the last Dragon Ball movie, though, so it just might be the area I currently live in, but man was that audience pumped. Everyone from five year olds (I guess that's going to be a well-informed kid), the teenaged girls giggling away, and the retirees cussing up a storm behind me.

Just start a 'Smoothrich's self-promotion thread'.

I'm having problems with my deadlift, to be exact my grip is holding back my progress - I feel like I could lift a lot more but my grip just can't handle the weight. Is this expected/normal with deadlift, do I just need to train my grip with more deadlifting?

Have an anecdote: exercises targeted at climbers helped me.

« on: January 23, 2016, 04:00:03 pm »

My conclusion:
In order to minimize risk: be a "mild racist"(aka. suspicious, alert etc.) but do not initiate illegal actions based on this "mild racism"
Remember that we are all individuals, which means that whenever possible(always in an ideal world) each person should be assessed as such.

Most of us are already implicitly racist in some way, unless you were raised in a fully integrated environment surrounded by people from diverse origins. It's usually a question of training yourself out of it and recognizing when it's weighting your decisions, like any other bias.

No one really complains about the huge positive bias that tall people with symmetric faces receive over their lifetimes.

'Western civilization' should probably focus on integration in regards to migrants, but there's too much negative baggage associated with the concept for it to be politically viable, until, apparently, you hit another extreme.

Why do some concepts suffer from association with reviled figures and movements in history but not others?

I don't know. Vegetarianism seems to have survived contact with that one guy. Integration could probably be extremely effective if it used the advances in understanding we've had regarding learning in the last forty years.

Anyway, you should make a single thread if you want to discuss (though 'discuss' seems to mean 'say something for the purpose of reinforcement') Muslims in Europe or the Refugee Crisis.

So before this, I had no idea what to do because I had no idea where to find information without using Google Translate. Now...well, now I've got a lot of information to process. Whatever happens, I start in Rheinland and will be in Berlin on 20 Feb, if that helps with any suggestions. I'm going to go look at train tickets and then come back here with a proposed plan, if you guys don't mind.

In regards to food, I'll mostly be looking for street food and whatever locals eat with some regularity that isn't an international franchise, etc.

@Panos: I'm not opposed to a retsina. I didn't even consider Greece before, but I guess that's why I made this thread. Will see if I can fit it in.

@Heskey: Definitely considering Glasgow, at least.

@Thomek: Cadaques seems great. Transportation requires further research, though Poland and Prague seem more likely at the moment.

@Christo: Thanks for the warning!

@Jacko: Yeah, Scandinavia seems out of my budget.

@Torben: I may be there by the 8th. We'll see.

@BlackxBird: I'll probably visit Bavaria.

@Utrakil: Will consider the river and winepubs thing!

@Cassi: Czech looks like it's getting higher on my list.

@Kafein: Will do if I find myself in Belgium.

Or really just Germany, next month. Maybe Ireland (because ryanair flights are cheap), Poland, Hungary, and Lithuania or something. I don't really know.

Convince me I should visit other places! Tell me what towns I should visit, where your favorite doner is, etc. Cheaper is better.

I'm looking for food, beer, and hiking spots. In that order. Historical infrastructure is a nice small bonus. Okay, I'd also be willing go a little out of my way to grab a beer with one of you.

Come now, there's no need to denigrate people with an autism spectrum disorder by associating them with the posters of this thread.

Xant, is your point with all these posts 'muslims are bad' or 'multiculturalism is bad'?

If neither, what are you trying to tell this forum?
