Suggestions Corner / Possible Throwing Nerfs
« on: February 23, 2011, 12:42:41 am »
These are two possible nerfs  for high-end throwing weapons, specifically at the Throwing Axe level and beyond.

1. Slower animations a la archery nerf.
2. A Wallace proposition: heavier high-end throwing weapons.

The lesser throwing weapons don't need a nerf, but the first proposition would affect them, too, and stat tweaks might fix the issues with them.

A simple doubling or tripling of the weight should effectively slow high-end throwers down, giving them a serious negative to what they do. Lances in this system, on the other hand, should weigh at least 12 per stack.

All these, of course, have nothing to do with realism, so don't bring those arguments here. This is about balance.

My fellow Americans and those courageous Europeans who dare the challenges of a high ping, it is my pleasure to announce the beginning of The Arena Tourney.

This will take place as a single-elimination tournament.

It is up to you to contact your opponent using whatever means available (their forum names are provided in parentheses for ease of access) and arrange a time and date to duel your opponent. The best 3 of 5 duels is declared a winner, and you will both report the results to all officiants (Whalen, Lt_Anders, Kalam) in a forum message. If there are any disagreements, you will seek out a tournament official to resolve it.

You each have until Thursday the 24th of February to contact and duel each of your opponents for the first round.

Check this table for reference, scores, and standings.

The Competitors:

Rules:
Duels are to take place in the NA Strategus server. You may ask Braeden for a map change if he's around.
Duellists may not continue running away from their opponents for more than a minute.
Each duel round only ends when one of the duellists is killed by the other.
Both duellists must report the result of the duel. If neither report the duel, points are subtracted from both.
Best 3 out of 5.

Any rule suggestions or complaints should be submitted to me.

General Off Topic / What We're Reading
« on: February 16, 2011, 06:15:22 pm »
Just as the topic says, since we've got one for music.

I'll start off.

Imagined Communities - Benedict Anderson

The Escapement - K.J. Parker

I think the latter is something a lot of Warband enthusiasts may like, actually, since this community seems to favour medieval settings without magic and references to 'realistic' medieval combat and such. The author claims that every combat scene is a recreation of a historical account.

My fellow Americans and those courageous Europeans who dare the challenges of a high ping, it is my pleasure to announce the beginning of The Tournament of Champions.

Events & Tournaments / The American Games (Introduction and Registration)
« on: January 29, 2011, 02:12:52 pm »
cRPG players blessed with the benefit of living in the Americas have been hitherto bereft of any inclusive competition such as the one that is currently being held on the other side of the Atlantic.

This is here to change that.

The Games will consist of four tournaments. All four will rely on matched competitors to arrange and judge their own duels on the NA Strategus server with a best of three out of five determining the victor. Upon completion of the duel, the participants will report the outcome directly to Game officiants, who will update the standings. The final duels, on the other hand, will be public affairs requiring the presence of an officiant.

The Tournament of Champions
What we're all here for, the Tournament of Champions is the ultimate free for all. With no item restrictions, this truly is the test of just who kicks the most individual ass. The Champion will be awarded with an artistic piece of his choosing and boasting rights. This will be a round robin tournament.
The Arena Tourney
A tournament allowing only a select few items. Namely: the tournament helms, colored tunics, practice weapons, staffs, arena shields, arena lance, sumpter horse, stones, hunting bow, and standard arrows. This will be a single elimination tournament.
The Continental Joust
An all-out cavalry affair, with no ranged weapons. This will be a single elimination tournament.
The Shootout
Ranged weapons only and any armour worth less than 10,000. Killing with melee disqualifies the duel. This will be a single elimination tournament.

Further details, rules, and regulations will be released post-registration. Registrants should either make a post here or send me a personal message with the required information.

Game Balance Discussion / On Weapon Requirements, A Whine Fix
« on: January 20, 2011, 06:02:43 pm »
Across cRPG, unskilled players yell 'spam' at every personal loss. Still, there are concerns that tug even my arrogant heart. I have heard your cries, and have decided to suggest a hotfix to the whine that permeates throughout these forums. Specifically, this should stop half of the idiots out there from accusing every skilled player of being an 'agility stacker'.

It will not help against the likes of Beeper, Pridecrusher, Kekeeke and other players with actual knowledge of the combat system, but it should help with your average real spammer, such as BXavier, Propanul, &c.

The solution is simple: raise the strength requirements of longer polearms and two-handers. Goodness knows why they're as low as they are, considering that most characters have a strength level higher than most of those requirements. Without further ado, I present the list:

Two-Handed Weapons

Long Iron Mace
Old Requirement: 11
New Requirement: 13

Great Bardiche
Old Requirement: 15
New Requirement: 17

War Cleaver
Old Requirement: 13
New Requirement: 18

Bar Mace
Old Requirement: 13
New Requirement: 16

Great Sword
Old Requirement: 13
New Requirement: 16

Highland Claymore
Old Requirement: 15
New Requirement: 18

Everything above Claymore should be upped to 18. 21 for a flamberge.

Polearms

Long Hafted Blade
Old Requirement: 10
New Requirement: 16

Glaive
Old Requirement: 11
New Requirement: 16

Long Hafted Spiked Mace
Old Requirement: 13
New Requirement: 16

Long Awlpike
Old Requirement: 11
New Requirement: 13

Long Bardiche
Old Requirement: 15
New Requirement: 16

Long Maul
Old Requirement: 14
New Requirement: 21

Long War Axe
Old Requirement: 14
New Requirement: 16

Faction Halls / The Free Companies of Calradia
« on: January 16, 2011, 09:38:52 am »
The Free Companies of Calradia are a cRPG and Strategus faction composed of multiple clans. Originally formed by microclans to make a difference on the Strategus map, the FCC has since grown into a major faction, still comprised of multiple parts.

cRPG
The cRPG clan is composed of the Art of War, the Bridgeburners, Il Cavalieres, and Unicorns. In the past, clan membership was influenced by builds and there was some structure. Most of the clans no longer have that structure, though it's ultimately up to each individual clan's leadership. Contact Holiday to join the Art of War, Kalam to join the Bridgeburners, Kamikaze_Joe or Mike and Ike to join the Cavalieres, and Gmnotutoo to join the Unicorns.

Strategus
The Strategus arm of the FCC is composed of the cRPG FCC quartet, the NA Fallen Brigade, and the Remnants. Contact BaleOHay, Dynamike, Garem, Holiday, Kesh, Orc Killer, or Weebo for more information.

Suggestions Corner / More 1h Weapons with 2H Mode
« on: January 15, 2011, 02:40:26 pm »
An avid fan of the Langes Messer, I have always wished after a larger selection of 1-handed weapons to use with two. Such as the Grosses Messer.

I'd like to see more!

General Discussion / The NA Alarm List
« on: January 12, 2011, 07:31:25 am »
The Age of Gods passed by aeons ago, and now, so to, does the Age of Heroes. With it disappeared the threat of individuals, and our threats come from new avenues. Avenues to be explored shortly. Stay tuned!
