General Discussion / Re: Dis Map Rotation Doe
« on: March 16, 2014, 09:21:29 pm »
I've made a few maps and I think one is still in rotation.

From my time playing, the one thing you can guarantee is troop movement. 95% spawn and make a straight line to the other side, meeting in the middle. Cavs will circle around and there's usually 1-2 ninjas who spend half the round going around the perimeter. When I made maps, first I tried to do a lot of stuff all over the map like little clusters of trees or some fallen logs to provide archer cover and shooting spots. Then I realized that almost no one goes to these areas; its always straight ahead to the middle. So I focused on making the middle interesting. Lots of cover, different avenues and elevations(not terrain but rocks/buildings/etc). And if there's a river, making a lot of bridges, both for cav and so that infantry is not forced into one narrow kill zone.

Regarding the original map that everyone hates, I don't hate it but its not one of my favorites. And the reasons are 1)zero cover along the main path, 2)forced to go into the water, 3)steep elevations. If I was changing the map, I'd add at least one, maybe two, bridges in the main area where people cross. I'd dot the landscape with either small groves of trees, single trees throughout, or rocks. I'd also probably add some large boulders in the shallowest crossing area to break it up and give some cover to those crossing.

Maybe that's a little much. I dunno, as my maps tend to grind your system to a halt cuz I like a lot of little details.

PS: I do hate the volcano map. Those poor textures were not meant to be stretched so much.

Beginner's Help and Guides / Re: Footwork and swing speed

This is sort of tangentially related but do most people hold down the left mouse button even when blocking? Does that initiate a swing quicker when you attack?

General Off Topic / Re: "Weaboo"

Not sure why this bothers you. Its the internet. Its full of unimaginative insults and stupid memes that are repeated over and over by these comedy geniuses. And friend sems to be the only thing that gets anyone banned. I've seen jew thrown around and sometimes get banned. I don't think I've ever seen anyone get banned for using gay or bundle of sticks or cocksucker or basically any other insult, unless its in all caps and spammed over and over. The worst thing you can do is block someone's screen with a bunch of words. Other than that, its your usual selective enforcement. Get used to it. You could also just close the chat completely. I forget how though.

Also, I tink weaboo is a little less offensive than friend. I'd scream weaboo in a room full of larping samurai before I screamed friend basically anywhere with people.

General Discussion / Re: Autobalance
« on: July 09, 2012, 12:08:41 am »
I was never one to complain about autobalance. I thought it worked fairly well most of the time, as long as it wasn't one clan vs everyone else. I consider working if its not a blowout on every map, regardless of who has cav or archer or whatever. I just started playing again after a long time away and something is definitely fucked up. There seem to be a lot more one-sided 4-0 or 4-1 battles, with one team consisting of five players with 14-0 k/d while the other team has maybe one of those guys and a couple above average.

General Discussion / Re: New Multi System will need ASSISTS
« on: June 28, 2012, 10:04:00 pm »
I agree the current system isn't ideal. But I think its better than the old system. So something in between has my support.

I do have a few concerns. Yes, assists need to happen. Not only for archers but for peasants. If a peasant can't get xp by proximity leeching, how's he ever going to earn money and level? I also don't see how it will be proximity based but not reward proximity leechers. How can a system tell the difference? I'm not really a fan of the proximity xp thing at all as it does not reward skill. I don't think it supports team play so much as it supports nut-hugging the guy thats 10-0. So people like Miley and Goretooth will just have 20 dudes buzzing around them as they move across the field.

I think little bonuses would be cool if its even possible. No annoying visual/auditory cues like BOOM HEADSHOT or anything dumb like that. But maybe an xp bonus or title next time you log in. For example, kill 5 dudes in 20 seconds, get a berzerker title and bonus for the next round. Get an arrow/bolt headshot, get a bonus. I don't think these should be massive bonuses or anything but just neat little things to spice up the gameplay.

If you want to leech, just get on a regular server and die fast. That's what everyone else does. Its especially noticable with cav that just run right into the enemy after spawn and get swarmed. Then do it again and again.

General Discussion / Re: Losing Multiplier in Spectator
« on: June 21, 2012, 03:49:51 am »
I'll just throw in a quick suggestion: Make it so that the team who wins the round with the less casualties makes the most gold. I think this would be the best way to ensure teamplay and tactical play.

I don't understand your sentence. You mean the less casualties on the winning team, the more bonus they get? Because the winning team will always have less casualties than the losing team, which has 100% casualties.

As for the multiplier loss, I don't get how you people have no time to take a piss or get a drink. I can understand if you're Miley and are always the last one alive, after mowing through 10 dudes. But for the rest of us who die sometime during the middle of the round, there's always time to do what you need to do. I've had maybe five times ever where I've had to leave the game because of something. Losing it because you didn't spawn into a new map in time does suck but, eh, its not that big of a deal.

About the multi changes, I really hope there is something for assists. When you're an average player like myself, it sucks when you kill three horses and take several people down to their last bit of life, yet never get the killing blow. Also, noobs would never be able to get ahead of the game if they didn't get something.

General Discussion / Re: Polearms

When did this change go through?

I haven't noticed the jump-spin-stab thing in a day or so. But yesterday I started dying to the polearm users who just turn around or slightly move left or right while in the stab position and I'm suddenly hit. I don't even know if its considered a left/right slash or a stab. Its like a version of polearm wiggle.

cRPG Technical problems / Re: missing tems in-game
« on: June 07, 2012, 06:51:58 am »
I don' t think I have any items switched but I have had items missing from the equip menu for some time now. They seem to eventually show up if I use them as my default loadout but not evrything loads up. It makes it impossible to switch things on the fly.

Long spear has those little side projection things shaped as triangles. They look like jet tail fins. On the heavy lance, for example, those projections are curved back toward the shaft. I also saw this guy using long spears on horse and warned him and he left immediately. Was not aware he had done this multiple times.

Thanks for the 7z clarification. Now I am missing a bunch of textures. Half of them are just black. Does the latest crpg patch have any effect on this?

I don't understand how to use the Caldaria in Darkness file. I downloaded a file with a .7z extension. What the hell is that and how do I use it? The install instruction talk about unzipping an archive into my texture folder. What archive?

Cavalry slow down:  cav no longer benefits from increased speed/maneuver/acceleration from points in riding

Does that mean there i sno point in getting riding past 6?

Does this apply for NA and NA ats servers?

I'm curious too because I haven't seen any difference today in-game.

Spam / Re: How do devs even know when ppl are autoblocking
« on: September 14, 2011, 06:15:47 am »
Well, I am an admittedly average player but I can't recall anyone that was impossible to hit at least once or twice. And I know I've beaten Espo 1v1 before. Bks_Tyrian and Harmless Peasant block multiple opponents regularly and they still play(well I haven't seen Peasant) so I assume they don't hack. So I don't know how anyone detects autoblock just from visual patterns.
