General Off Topic / The Chilcot Report
« on: July 06, 2016, 12:38:47 pm »
So Chilcot released the inquiry about Iraq today and from listening to his speech he pretty much dismantled Tony Blair and tore to pieces the war effort. So not a whitewash like many expected.

Blair said "I will be with you whatever" to Bush which is a pretty big deal. The report is like 2 million words so will have to wait for the journos to go through it while I listen to LBC (will post links later)

Anyone else been listening to the report?

General Off Topic / What its like being British
« on: July 03, 2016, 01:10:45 pm »
Some of these are spot on (apart from i dont drink tea)

• Worrying you’ve accidentally packed 3 kilos of cocaine and a dead goat as you stroll through “Nothing to declare”
• Being unable to stand and leave without first saying “right”
• Not hearing someone for the third time, so just laughing and hoping for the best
• Saying “anywhere here’s fine” when the taxi’s directly outside your front door
• Being sure to start touching your bag 15 minutes before your station, so the person in the aisle seat is fully prepared for your exit
• Repeatedly pressing the door button on the train before it’s illuminated, to assure your fellow commuters you have the situation in hand
• Having someone sit next to you on the train, meaning you’ll have to eat your crisps at home
• The huge sense of relief after your perfectly valid train ticket is accepted by the inspector
• The horror of someone you only half know saying: “Oh I’m getting that train too”
• “Sorry, is anyone sitting here?” – Translation: Unless this is a person who looks remarkably like a bag, I suggest you move it
• Loudly tapping your fingers at the cashpoint, to assure the queue that you’ve asked for money and the wait is out of your hands
• Looking away so violently as someone nearby enters their PIN that you accidentally dislocate your neck
• Waiting for permission to leave after paying for something with the exact change
• Saying hello to a friend in the supermarket, then creeping around like a burglar to avoid seeing them again
• Watching with quiet sorrow as you receive a different haircut to the one you requested
• Being unable to pay for something with the exact change without saying “I think that’s right”
• Overtaking someone on foot and having to keep up the uncomfortably fast pace until safely over the horizon
• Being unable to turn and walk in the opposite direction without first taking out your phone and frowning at it
• Deeming it necessary to do a little jog over zebra crossings, while throwing in an apologetic mini wave
• Punishing people who don’t say thank you by saying “you’re welcome” as quietly as possible
• The overwhelming sorrow of finding a cup of tea you forgot about
• Turning down a cup of tea for no reason and instantly knowing you’ve made a terrible, terrible mistake
• Suddenly remembering your tea and necking it like a massive, lukewarm shot
• Realising you’ve got about fifty grand’s worth of plastic bags under your kitchen sink
• “You’ll have to excuse the mess” – Translation: I’ve spent seven hours tidying in preparation for your visit
• Indicating that you want the last roast potato by trying to force everyone else to take it
• “I’m off to bed” – Translation: “I’m off to stare at my phone in another part of the house”
• Mishearing somebody’s name on the second time of asking, meaning you must now avoid them forever
• Leaving it too late to correct someone, meaning you must live with your new name forever
• Running out of ways to say thanks when a succession of doors are held for you, having already deployed ‘cheers’, ‘ta’ and ‘nice one’
• Changing from ‘kind regards’ to just ‘regards’, to indicate that you’re rapidly reaching the end of your tether
• Staring at your phone in silent horror until the unknown number stops ringing
• Hearing a recording of your own voice and deciding it’s perhaps best never to speak again
• The relief when someone doesn’t answer their phone within three rings and you can hang up
• Filming an entire fireworks display on your phone, knowing full well you’ll never, ever watch it again

... and all the other things floating around out there / Doom
« on: May 15, 2016, 11:38:51 pm »
So I bought this game even after the disappointing multiplayer beta because I am a total Doom 1-2 fanboy.

I must say ive been pleasantly surprised so far, Its very quick paced where you just blow the crap out of classic Doom demons, The story is secondary but gives you some info ofc. The multiplayer is still pretty meh but the single player has secrets and all of that jazz with a lot of easter eggs and possibly the thing i enjoyed the most out of pure fanboyism was the classic doom level secrets :D

It can be pretty repetitive but it captures that fast paced blow shit up style of earlier shooters.

What did you guys think of single player? (if you bought it) I dabble in the MP but i dont think i will play it a lot, especially when Overwatch is released

http://news.sky.com/story/1386068/greek-pm-elgin-marbles-loan-an-affront

Quote
The Greek prime minister has hit out at the British Museum's loan of one of the Elgin Marbles to Russia, calling it an "affront" to his country's people.

Antonis Samaras said the sculptures, which have been loaned for the first time to the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, had been "looted" from Athens.

Are you getting your protest on Panos?

Quote
The British Museum's director Neil MacGregor indicated that he would be willing to consider a similar loan of a statue to Greece - but only if the authorities there promised to return it to London.

Mr MacGregor said he hoped the Greek government would be "delighted" that the sculpture would be on display to a new audience.

But Mr Samaras said: "The decision by the British Museum to give out on loan one of the Parthenon sculptures for exhibit in St Petersburg is an affront to the Greek people.

"The British argument held until recently - that the Parthenon Marbles cannot be moved - is no longer valid; just as the existence of the new Acropolis Museum invalidated the other British argument that there was no appropriate space for exhibiting the sculptures.

"The Parthenon and its marbles have been looted. The sculptures are priceless.

"We Greeks are one with our history and civilization, which cannot be broken up, loaned out, or conceded."

http://metro.co.uk/2014/09/13/say-hello-to-this-creepy-virtual-sex-assault-game-in-japan-where-you-can-grope-breasts-4867584/

Quote
Using the virtual gaming headset, Oculus Rift, a video-game developer has created a game where users can grope a young woman’s breast.

The programmed reaction of the girl suggests assault as it shows the girl’s body language is unhappy and acts defensively when one or both of her breasts are grabbed.

An added creep bonus is the interactive prosthetic boob simulator that comes with the game.

It is due to be demoed at Japan’s Oculus Rift Festival, but don’t expect non-perverted people to be impressed.

General Off Topic / The EU (and all things related)
« on: June 05, 2014, 08:42:08 pm »
so it seems EU talk spills out over many threads so lets concentrate it.

http://news.sky.com/story/1276061/obama-the-eu-wont-work-without-uk

the obama bit doesn't really matter but something that has been in the papers alot here is who becomes the next president of the European Commission.

Quote
Mr Juncker was the chosen candidate for the post by the centre-right bloc that won most seats in the elections.

Mrs Merkel warned Germany's politicians on Wednesday that it would be "unacceptable" to ignore British hostility to the appointment of Mr Juncker but repeated her support for him.

Mr Cameron's reservations are shared by Sweden, Hungary and Italy.

Mr Juncker is fully expecting to get Europe's most prestigious job and yesterday tweeted: "I am more confident than ever that I will be the next European Commission President."

So what do you think of Juncker? Is a man who wants a Federal States of Europe and who is all for secret meetings and lying to the general population? His impending appointment seems to have split EU leaders after a large surge in eurosceptic votes. is appointing someone so federalist wise at this time? what do you guys think.

http://news.sky.com/story/1275558/syria-election-bashar-al-assad-named-winner

Quote
Bashar al Assad has won the Syrian presidential election with 88.7% of the votes, according to the country's parliament speaker.

Jihad Laham said Mr Assad's two challengers, Hassan al Nouri and Maher Hajjar, won 4.3% and 3.2% respectively.

The turnout was 73.42%, according to the Supreme Constitutional Court.

The vote was only held in government-controlled areas, with the Syrian opposition and the West describing the decision to stage it during a civil war as a "farce".

Dat charisma to get 88%! What a good politician

General Off Topic / Tunnel for the cash!
« on: March 20, 2014, 07:06:18 pm »
So i guess a bunch of guys were sitting around one day and decided to watch The great escape. This must have given them some ideas ^^

http://news.sky.com/story/1229111/salford-cash-machine-thieves-dig-50ft-tunnel

Quote
Thieves have dug a 50ft (15m) tunnel underneath a cash machine to steal a "significant amount of cash", police said.
Detectives believe the perpetrators spent months building the tunnel to access the ATM at Tesco Express on Liverpool Road in Eccles, Salford.

They completed their burrowing through wasteland and into the shop overnight on Friday
The thieves stole cash boxes before escaping back through the tunnel, which police describe as having a "complex structure".

Detective superintendent Mark Toker said: "These people had obviously spent a long time plotting this crime and I doubt they would have been able to keep their plans secret for all that time, without telling others about their elaborate scheme.

"The offenders must have spent long periods of time in the area over the last few months, which people may have noticed.

It is not the first time thieves have tunnelled their way to cash in Great Manchester.
Police said those responsible for the raid of a Blockbuster shop in Levenshulme spent six months burrowing a 100ft tunnel with lighting and roof supports.

The theft occurred in January 2012, eight miles from Friday's raid.
