cRPG Technical problems / Messed up
« on: October 29, 2014, 10:55:18 am »
Being the rushing dumb ass that I am I accidentally exchanged my +2 hourglass gauntlets for a heraldic tunic over mail and plate instead of the heraldic surcoat over mail and plate.

is it possible for this to be reverted or am I going to have to live with my stupidity?

the character this happened on was Wolfsblood.

thanks either way

Game Balance Discussion / A general discussion on the issue of ranged
« on: December 15, 2013, 06:22:23 pm »
Before I get into the meat of this discussion lets first start with this;

I wish this to be a fair and objective discussion on the issue of ranged(xbow/archer) in this game and for flaming, raging and hate to be left out of this discussion so we can actually come to together with a solution to this "problem" and leave people happy. Now I know this is asking a lot out of lobbyist from both sides of the discussion but if we can stop being dicks to each other for a short while I believe that we can all find a balanced solution.

Now for the meat. The problem with ranged.

1. There are a lot of ranged. The more ranged there are the more difficult it becomes to take them down. As we all know it is easier to fight a 4 v 1  against melee than it is against archers.

But why are there so many ranged?

2. Archery and xbow's are far to easy to pick up and be able to learn to use. as I stated in this thread, http://forum.melee.org/suggestions-corner/ranged-56629/ , the time it takes to properly learn how to be a ranged bundle of sticks is miniscule compared to how long it takes to be proficient in melee. That is why so many new and old people have picked up ranged. In short it is too easy to be good at ranged.

So what can we do to solve problem #1? obviously the answer would be to reduce the amount of ranged. But how do that? I believe that we have to deal with issue #2 for that.

So how are we going to make archery hard to learn? That's what I want to discuss here.

The things that I think need to be avoided are the usual "grab a shield" or "nerf ranged" easy answers. grab a shield doesn't work because we don't want to be forced to play a class. nerf ranged doesn't work because we don't want to decrease their potential or the ranged who are genuine in their dedication to the class are going to get screwed.

So I believe that what we need is to make ranged harder to master, not nerf it all together.

but what can we do to do that? that's where we need this discussion and here in the OP I will put all ideas that are put forth so please discuss

Ideas:
-Remove Crosshairs for ranged http://forum.melee.org/suggestions-corner/ranged-56629/ (Wolfsblood)

-Decrease time until ranged crosshairs become inaccurate http://forum.melee.org/suggestions-corner/ranged-56629/msg915857/#msg915857 (san_of_chaos)

-Templar steevee's changes  http://forum.melee.org/game-balance-discussion/how-to-nerf-archery-without-destroying-it/msg913271/#msg913271

-Tighter crosshairs (more accurate) but slower projectiles, more projectile dip, bigger crosshair when running and longer time to settle when you stop, less damage unless you hit the head (smaller target), Less stagger when you shoot something, Less ammo so you have to be careful with your shots (Grumbs)

- Arrows should not break shields. (Unless it's arena shield or some weakling-crap) (BlueKnight)

-archers ammo should just get decreased (Prinz_Karl)

-create a class limit/competition on servers  http://forum.melee.org/suggestions-corner/battle-mode-decrease-archers-crossbowmen-and-cavalry-by-a-set-percentage/?topicseen (Riddaren)

Suggestions Corner / Ranged
« on: December 15, 2013, 12:29:30 am »
Hello Community,

Amid all the hate range threads and playing non-shielder melee I have come to understand the reasoning behind all the hate on range (btw my main is ranged). It is rather annoying to have to deal with ha/hx at the end of rounds, being headshot by an arby at the beginning of a round and being pew pew'd by archers before you can slice them from head to dick/cave their skulls in. However as an archer I cannot say that archery/xbows need a nerf. What they need is for their "skill floor" to be dropped. (meaning beginning difficulty of the class)

As it is, compared to inf, it is relatively easy to pick up a bow or xbow and become proficient at hitting targets consistently in a short amount of time. I would say a maximum of 75 (brain dead 12 year old) hours to become proficient at xbow bundle of sticksry with a little more time than that towards archery. Compare that to melee where 100 hours is necessary just to be able to block well enough to stay alive for a few minutes let alone learning how to use proper footwork, feint, chamber ect.

When you look at stats like that its no wonder there are so many ranged players. Its quick to get good at, coupled with the ability to deal damage from afar safe from most enemies.

So what I have been thinking on is the best way to lower the "skill floor" so that the archers that are actually good stay good and the people who pick up the class for fun or rage have to actually work to be good.

The only thing I can think of is to remove the cross hair from the game. This way in order to get good one will actually have to put in their time to get good. To learn the arrow drop from their bow, To learn how far to lead a moving target.

Yes with this solution, I'm sure that even the best archers/xbowers will need time to adapt to this change but in the end they will eventually be able to and still be as good as they are while eliminated those who are not dedicated to these classes.

Also, while I know that anyone with half a brain knows that cross hairs are client side and just deleting them wont keep my old friends from adding new ones this is where i believe the dev black list for mods would be fantastic but, I'm not holding my breath on that.

P.s. Please keep as objective as possible and reduce flaming to a bare minimum. I understand tensions are high between lobbyists but hate and flame will not get us anywhere in this discussion.

P.P.s. Please comment and add as to why this is a good/bad idea and if you have something better please tell me what it is.

TLDR: remove cross hair from game to lower skill ceiling of ranged.

Disclaimer: In no way is this idea original. I give credit to those who have though of this before me. the only reason I made this topic is because I believe this option has not been taken perused enough.

cRPG Technical problems / missing loom point?
« on: March 06, 2013, 01:44:44 am »
Hello,

I retired at lvl 32 last night or the night before (I forget when exactly) and I only got one loom point for it. If at all possible I would like to get the second loom point that I am missing.

thanks for your time
