Strategus General Discussion / New to strat

Hey I've been a long time player of cRPG and have tried playing strategus a couple of times, usually i'll sign in and click somewhere on the map and try to do something, get confused and go back to regular cRPG. But seeing as how there's an all new patch coming out, i figured now would be a good time to join. I'm not a super active player, might play a few hours a week max, so I'm not sure about joining a clan because i'd really rather not have any responsibilities or anything like that. So basically i was wondering what all there is to do if your not in a clan? or if i was to join a clan, would i need to play a certain amount every night?

Can we do:

level 30 gives you the ability to retire - keep your gear, reset of stats

level 31 gives you a better retire- same thing but you also get an heirloom


This way players that just want to try out new builds/stats can do that without too much pain.  And players who want to grind hardcore can do so and get a small reward for it.

I don't understand why there needs to constantly be something to "work" towards... the act of playing the game should be it.  If playing isn't fun in itself, then something is wrong.

Having something to work for is exactly what separates this mod from native. It's what keeps games fun for a long time.

I started downloading the patch about half an hour ago and its not crept above about 5 KB/s, is this just me or is the server being overloaded?
