Taken ~2 weeks ago. 12,5% body fat @ 82 kg . Lost around 8 kg in the last 5 months with a very small deficit (Yes, I was quite fat, 90 kg at 183 cm body height :D ), now I'll bulk to at least 86 kg again before I'll continue cutting.

Yeah well, my bicep really isn't 'more alpha' than the biceps of 50% of the guys that hit the gym regularly and train hard, still 500% more alpha than 99,99% of the nerds in this forum, so gib looms

And Fin, call Steroids all you want, but in reality i have never had enough money to even consider taking steroids. I would rather buy quality foods and other things and live for longer. I'm only 23. Lighten up man.
Also who in there right mind would even read the information on the bottle let alone take Synthol if they're not competing in a professional bodybuilding association. Them people who abuse it can't afford anything else and now they look horrific and disgusting.

I for one find nothing wrong with OP. Gamers in general have a stigma as most of you might know. I even use to feel embarrass to tell people I was a gamer because of how people perceived "gamers". It is known that most "gamers", PC gamers in general don't get the exercise they need. Nothing wrong with motivating and breaking stereotypes for other people. Sure there are the people that say this is egotistic and vain but don't we do this as well in the gaming world with rank, trophy's, achievements, skins, etc?

Akronus97 calling this "dumb" or whatever he said (to lazy to look at his post) and using sarcasm to try to gain sympathy for his point of view which is probably a deeper issue than guys showing their bicep lol.

Bro you need to do some hammer curls. Work that long head bruh.

I can honestly say my bicep is my weakest and smallest muscle
Title: Re: cRPG Biceps Competition (Prizes Included)
Post by: //saxon on July 19, 2015, 05:14:51 pm
I wouldn't say it's vain or egotistic, maybe a little but if i'm going to spend time working out and trying to stay healthy which is what a whole lot of people are doing nowadays, then i have the right to feel a sense of accomplishment.

In the Olympics when someone wins a gold medal, do you call them vain when they have pictures with their gold medal? no it's just them achieving something and being proud of it.

That goes with everything in life. What's with all these depressing comments..jesus..

WARNING: Don't read if you don't like that kind of discussion :P

Akronus97 calling this "dumb" or whatever he said (to lazy to look at his post) and using sarcasm to try to gain sympathy for his point of view which is probably a deeper issue than guys showing their bicep lol.

I can honestly say my bicep is my weakest and smallest muscle

First of all it is important that you fully read my comment. Second, the usage of sarcasm doesn't have to be something negative. It is one way to convey criticism with humour which doesn't weaken the message itself in any way. Also, why do I have an issue because I make fun of this thread just because it is obviously for some people just a way to show off. Apart from that this method of criticism wasn't used in order to gain sympathy, I used it to illustrate the current behaviour of some people in here. I could have written a long essay, but why would I do that if I am able to put it into 2 lines?

Btw, inspiring people to exercise is a great thing, but this is obviously not the purpose of those pics. I agree that egoistic is the wrong term in this context (I haven't used it so far), narcisstic would describe it way better. Presenting your own muscleses is a typical behaviour of men attempting to show how strong and manly they are. This is nothing else than a relict from the time in which humans ran around with vestigial weapons in order to survive, a circumstance which is not of any relevance to modern society (at least in almost every situation). By using the term "bigges alpha" it is simply stressed what feeling you guys get when you upload and share your Biceps-pics. The behaviour described above is nothing else than savage.

Now you made me write an essay, something I wanted to avoid, but I felt too much the urge to tell you that sarcasm is not distinctive for personal issues. Just upload as many pics of yourself as you want, I don't really care, it would be your buisness if you didn't upload it on a public forum. That's why you have to live with justified criticism.

In the Olympics when someone wins a gold medal, do you call them vain when they have pictures with their gold medal? no it's just them achieving something and being proud of it.

That goes with everything in life. What's with all these depressing comments..jesus..

Usually you don't join the olympics because you want to show off with your medal. And yes, it is an accomplishment worth celebrating because they worked years unbelieveably hard for it. But just showing off with your Biceps in the Internet? Compared to that it is really trivial.
Also, an opposing or critical opinion is not necessarily a proof for being depressive. Although it is a well working tacitc :)

I'm sorry mate but it really is not the same, if you were doing weights to help you at your chosen sport fairplay. Total respect for that because real athletes like endurance competetiors, like swimmers, runners and skiers need weights to give them the edge. But if you are doing weights to "look better" and feel more confidant about picking up girls that is as vain as you can get. Seriously you don't need to follow the sheeple, not all girls give a shit about how big your bicep is lol (albeit many do because they are just as vain). If you want to feel a strong independent minded Male, don't follow the commercialisation of all this gym bullcrap. Get outside, do body weight stuff, some real physical work like building dry stone walls or something if you want to get strong.

While I see where you're coming from about "not following the sheeple" (you really played that one straight), lifting 'for girls' as they say is better than being a couch potato.

But if you are doing weights to "look better" and feel more confidant about picking up girls that is as vain as you can get.

What's wrong with going to the gym to look better? And what's wrong with a need to boost your self confidence by looking good, healthy and muscular? Buying nice clothes and going to the hairdresser makes you vain as well?

Seriously you don't need to follow the sheeple, not all girls give a shit about how big your bicep is lol (albeit many do because they are just as vain).

If a girl cares about man's look she's vain. If a man cares about his look he's vain as well (and gay). But when all men chase hot chicks, not the ugly ones, that's okay! Logic  And please, don't say that only vain men want to fuck hot chicks, because that's untrue. Appearance matters, period.

If you want to feel a strong independent minded Male, don't follow the commercialisation of all this gym bullcrap.

Don't see how being a skinny hipster is gonna make me "a strong independent minded Male". And I'm rather skinny myself, definitely not very muscular and never have been at gym

How do you know Saxon, me or anyone you don't personally know lifts for looks, to feel more confidant or to "impress girls" or anything similar?
I for my part don't. When I started going to the gym many years ago it was because a good friend and I were quitting the aikido-club we were part of for many years in our later childhood/early teens. He already was member in our local gym through his parents, and I said: Ok, you like sport, you want to do something healthy, and why not enter the gym and look what you can do there?.
And here I am.
Also, I'm not doing 'bodybuilding', more like powerlifting. I'm trying to push my strenght a bit more in every single session and my very focus lies on the 4 big basic exercises. Of course I am doing extra exercises for arms, abs and shoulders, but that isn't my focus.
I do what I do so I can write that 1 more rep or 2,5 more kg's in my book and be satisfied with myself. Good looks is the second part, that practically comes alone if your training and your nutrition is somewhat right.
I won't deny that in my very early gym-time (when I was like 15-17 years old) one thought connected to the gym always was "Oh, when you have muscles, gurls will like you better bruh". But well, that's long ago, and I don't think any male older than 18 in the gym thinks like that, and if, he's mentally retarded anyway.

People really react this harsh just to the thought of people wanting big biceps, and wanting to show them? Even in a harmless competition like this. Im still surprised people care so much what others decide to do in their spare time.

Someone in game thought the idea of going to the gym was weird, when you could be practicing muay thai which is usefull for defending your Mother (kek). While not realising hes playing a video game which is nearly a 100% time waster. He could be taking language courses or something.

Buddy of mine is competitive rower for 18 years now.
Never did any real gym traning, looks skinny as fuck, no huge biceps...

...and still I am very confident that he'll arm wrestle every single one of you people in seconds, with all your air in your arms  8-)

That's why I think that "hitting the gym yo" is silly. I've seen people breathing hard while carrying some table water bottles across the parking place with upper arms like legs. Do some real sports instead of hiding in some gym, doing exercises all alone and still claiming you're better than some coach dweller sitting there all alone. :P

But, whatever rocks your boat I guess. I still think it's silly.

Why does it have to have a use beyond looking good (subjective but still)? Tons of things we do are of less use yet some catch more flak for some reason.

I lift (I want to say)infrequently to maintain a lean, cut look, but plenty of my friends go the heavy body building look because its a great go-to for young men who aren't very interesting. But really, what's so wrong with lifting for vanity? Isn't that why we do anything at all? To feel more comfortable about or improve ourselves? If you aren't trying to improve yourself, you're pretty much a waste of space.
This is very true, also the same reason people buy expensive and fashionable clothes.

Maybe I am getting the wrong impression but it always has the tone of superiority to it "Look at me muscles bruh!" when I fail to see superiority. And going out on a limb here, I think several people here think the same. That's where the opposition comes from, I figure.
And to clarify, I believe it to be silly in real life the same as in here. And I believe that for years already. Merely expressing my general believe founded on a lot of real life observations.
Trying to say that my believe is not connecting to this specific thread or specific people of this community, in case that is assumed by anyone.

Just to clarify: I don't have a problem with someone getting musceles or going to the gym. What I and also some others pointed out above is the evident difference between the 2 objectives to stay healthy and look good and presenting it in a public threat. To refer to Warlord I obviously can't judge your whole person because of something like that. BUT uploading your Biceps-pics is nothing else than the call "HEY, here I am, also look at me, I look good!" And I am sorry to say but this behaviour is kind of primitive as I outlined it in my longer comment.
Buddy of mine is competitive rower for 18 years now.

Being in a gym is better than nothing and as support for different sport it can also be very effective. But I totally agree with Molly. The normal training in a gym doesn't give your musceles endurance, you just get a lot of musceles to look nice (there is no problem with it in general). But sentences like "biggest alpha" and "big musceles = good shape" show that some of you have no clue about the way musceles work and that you let delude yourself by images in society connoting strength. Furthermore, you cannot really tell me that showing your Biceps to a lot of people doesn't make you feel good and strong. This circumstance is natural, but that doesn't make it any less savage imo.

Maybe I am getting the wrong impression but it always has the tone of superiority to it "Look at me muscles bruh!" when I fail to see superiority. And going out on a limb here, I think several people here think the same. That's where the opposition comes from, I figure.

Exactly!

While a lot of people probably do show it off and try to be alpha i think, atleast for this thread, people are doing it kind of as a satire of just that, but at the same time to show it off a bit too. Its not surprising to me that someone would want to show off what they put a lot of effort into. Allthough a limit to everything i suppose. I think its cool that people do put effort into things to show off, because i could never do that myself.

Maybe over the years I lost the feeling that this forum is a public thing. In my head it's more like a cave for a couple of hundred nerds, a somewhat homogeneous group of people. An incestuous family, where not everbody likes each other, but all have something in common and share certain things, like being trapped in this freaking mod until it eventually dies.

I'm on holiday now, drinking my 'curd-cheese-milk-whey-water-80-grams-of-protein-and 1l-water-drink' right at this moment, and will be enjoying a hard training session later, eating like a fucking king afterwards, feeling good and sleeping like a baby tonight.
Everybody who's lifting shit probably knows what I'm talking about, people like us merely can smile about people thinking what we do is "silly" or whatever. Enjoy being fat or thin, I couldn't look in the mirror myself. God already didn't bless me with a beautiful face, so why should my body be fat and shapeless, if that's a thing I can influcence myself?
Whatever, each man to his own.

It is strange how many people on these forums are detached from reality? Must be because so many of you live in small villages, far away from cities. Currently, in most big cities around the world, lifting and fitness culture is not big, it is hugely popular and getting more popular each day. Everybody tries to look like bodybuilder these days. Only those who absolutely have no time for that due to their job or aren't willing to dedicate and organize their small portion of free time to go to gym, exercise and eat healthy, aren't following the trend. And they are in minority, even among people who have real job (bankers, programmers etc.), not the likes of Saxon's whose job is being fitness trainer.

Also, Saxon is lying about not using steroids. Everybody who has cut phase does steroids. These days steroids aren't awfully cheap but every schmuck can afford them because they save for that shit, rather than something important. Rest of folks in this thread could be on steroids, but that would mean their diet is godawful. Which I don't think is the case, which means they are just working out hard. Saxon isn't, he's freaking fitness trainer who spends most of his time with pro bbers and they mostly talk about their regime of training of which important part is using steroids (which combination, how long, effects etc.) No one gets to be big like Saxon, while staying lean and vascular without steroids. Just don't understand why are they trying so hard to hide that fact, like chicks who had boob job then deny they have implants. Silly.

dude,  no offence.  but that really is bs.  one can achieve so much with high level of dedication,  hard training and good dieting.
I know by personal experience and theoretical reflection.  my buddies and I did Track and Field on a sub national and national level for years,  we got tested before bigger events so I can say for sure non of us did drugs,  and all of us looked mean and lean.  Just like a few natural bodybuilders I know also for sure never did drugs.
Heck the last one of us still active is a decathlete training next to running a pharmacy.  and he doesnt even diet hard,  he just trains like the fucking maniac he is and he looks sicker then half of steroid using slackoffs.

I give you that lots of people today do drugs,  but very many of them use them as shortcuts to achieve a goal while being able to cheat either by training less dedicated or slacking in diet.  drugs are not the only option for athletic success,  they just make your life easier if you are moving within certain athletic potential - and not beyond that.

How did you know i was a Personal Trainer? o.O

Saxon is lying about not using steroids
Steroids? I might be dumb but i'm not stupid  I work in a very strict company, we get tested for steroids and other enhancements at random times, it could be 3 times in 1 week we get tested, it could be once in 2 weeks. It's unpredictable and makes it impossible to use steroids, some supplements are accepted and ok to use like Creatine and Pre-workouts and the like. Anything Steroids are banned and i wouldn't be working there. But whatever, you will still ignore the truth anyway.

And good genetics. I've seen ripped people who are spending very little time in the gym. But I highly doubt Saxon is that type.
About body types and genetics. I have learnt in the 5 years i've been "lifting" that i have a good control over my body and if i need to gain weight i can and i also find it easy to lose weight too, cut fat i mean. I did complete a level 5 nutrition qualification over 4 years which obviously gives me experience in dieting and all that related stuff.

Saxon has been playing cRPG for many hours in past 4 years. Want to tell me how he ate his protein in front of screen every few hours. Or how he slept well.
I get 6 hours every night, i've learnt that 6 hours is enough for me personally some people need more or less. that gives me 18 hours left of the whole day, 9 hours at work, in those 9 hours i also workout while i'm in work because we are granted that luxury at the place i work. that's 9 hours left i would have already eaten 3 meals in those hours at work sometimes i eat 4 meals, so that leaves me with 2-3 meals left in those 9 hours i have left of the day, now think what i can do in 9 hours before i go to sleep again.  :) I admit some of those spare 9 hours i have extra clients that i train for extra cash but it's not constistant at the moment, everyone is on holiday in England..  :D

actually face is really importan for the first look. but u dont need to have big muscles which are hiden beyond your shirt ;)

I blame Ark97 for the derailment of this thread. Cleaver boy. Job accomplished. Wasn't this about free looms? Your projecting self reflection and "mirroring". I knew Psychology 101 would pay off. UH, Eat it!

You guys know there is literally thousands of ways to work out at the gym (X-fit, Power Lift, Endurance, Strength, Mass, shredding, ETC) and everybody has their own reason. For me? Job related and yes it has help with ruck marches, routine, stress reliever, run times, rehabilitation, endurance, list goes on and on. You guys assuming working out the one way is all about chicks. Nah, its about making your self feel good and getting confidence but the reasoning is also endless.

Bicep pics in the forum is funny, fun and a chance of free looms, not about "I'm alpha, check out my biceps bruh."

"Their" objective was pretty clear from the beginning from name calling, sarcasm and under-minding. That why I took it with a grain of salt, laughed it off because some of it was funny and just....

It's always better to have strength training and bodybuilding side by side.

I pity all those who think workout is the best thing to do^^ Don't misunderstand, everyone can do whatever he/she wants to do, any kind of exercise is better than none, but that doesn't make workout great...
Besides, some people in this thread hold a point which could be regarded as highly superficial (women who supposedly love musceles so much and so on....)
But whatever, don't lose your fun cause of me. Just live with people commenting :)

Well, your comments are pretty irrelevant. I don't think I need to outline the benefits of exercise in this thread, as anyone making a legit post here probably already knows.

Go run up some mountains, swim in some rivers and chuck some rocks and tree logs. You'll be stronger than ever I promise :)

Well lets break this whole thing down a little. When did the will to grow muscles become so popular in the public eye? Could it be it has ownly grown into a multi billion dollar industry over the last ten years (or less). Could it be that the surge in popularity matches this peer pressure generated through the Capitalist machine. Careful what you are being sold... Also where do these alpha physiques come from? Greek and Roman statues? The film 300? I don't know guys, i think you gym goers have all just been sucked in (just my opinion ofcourse ;P ). Appearance is all relative and subjective, just be sure you're working out for yourself and not for others is basically my point.

He is right, you know...

1: Endorphins, they make you happy and who the fuck wants to be happy.
2: You also get more energy and who the fuck wants to be awake
3: you notice positive change in your body, you can lift more, you can do more without getting exhausted and who the fuck wants to notice shit

Yes, Yes, Many disadvantages.

Only real one I can think of is if you do shit wrong, like not warming up, tearing shit left to right.

This is such stupid idealization and I don't get why you feel like doing something outside is more respectable than doing it in the gym. You are also plainly wrong, the degree of control you have over your workouts in the gym, means that you will never get more efficient workouts outside of it, regardless whether you go for size, strength or conditioning. Just because many people decide to use this control to workout for size, does not mean that you can't do anything else, which is very evident from the fact that any professional athlete spends a lot of time in the gym.

Stupid idealization? Surely you can agree that humankind has lost so much touch and is now disconnected with nature. In my eyes this is a tradgedy, how can encouraging people to go outside and exercise which has a whole host of benefits be stupid idealization? Mate, running for example is the best exercise a human being can do, period. Us humans are made for running, every single baby and young child are great runners, it is only the unfortunate environmental factors which then come into play to make you think you cannot and and never will run to a good standard (wrong physique or what have you). I did'nt say gyms dont have their place, as you say for professional athletes they need that exact degree the best sports science can bring. For the average person, only exercising in a gym is really harmful.

Seriously i could rant on for a while about how modern humans are so disconnected with nature we are just letting it be destroyed without a second glance, also que climate change. Anyway another time another thread ^^

Anything with running yes. Have a look into how good running is for the body and brain. Its natural, if you understand human biomechanics, not so long ago our ancestors were running on the savannah, wearing down animals in teams.

I would think swimming is better than running. It's defiantly more tiring and less likely to have long term problems with your knees/metatarsal bones that you could possibly get from running everyday.

In fact there is probably no animal like the human which can long as we can (theoretically). You can still see that in some parts of Africa for example. There people can run for 8 hours in the heat and hunt each animal until their victim can't run anymore. Nowadays we are not able to do so because we haven't lived like that for generations (this is not supposed to be a judgement :) )

Dunno about mountains but there is certainly a hill or two nearby, unless said city is massive shithole. Nice cities have parks for recreation, forest or two, river(s) with accompanying human made islands many have smaller mountains nearby. And if you live on outskirts, you have all of that minutes away.

City that only has roads and buildings is not a city, it is concrete prison.

Parks - sure, plenty of them, forests - well, if you, like me, live in the center of the city, forest is definitely not an option. There's also no mountains and no hills, most of big cities are placed on plains I think. And there's definitely no rocks or tree logs to chuck

Exactly you guys have it right. Said mountains are a luxury for most, so you just gotta be creative where you can, find that park or find a good accesible way to escape the city for a bit. And yeah Saxon you are right, because most people run soley on road/ tarmac which is terrible for your joints and muscles without good shoes. The trick is to finding a balance that fits you and your body. Anyway I think we have made some progress, balance is great, strength and conditioning is great to supplement other activity, because lets face it being fit and able to do stuff is a great thing, and you should all be proud that you^re getting out and having a blast for that good ol endorphin surge and having fun while you're at it.

Well, I'm pretty sure its also a lot less impact on your knees and ankles to run on a rubber treadmill than it is to run outside unless everywhere you go is nice grass & soil. Everywhere where most ppl are is built up, and while sure its CONVENIENT, cities built of concrete and stone are a very hostile environment for the human body.

I train 3 days  in a row with a break day after them. Each day for different muscle groups. I'm training for 2 years now and I'm 17 years old. My biceps is pretty alpha and I'm proud of him.
I need to admit though the light was pretty good in the bathroom. No pump on it though.
Btw the only thing I'm taking is creatine. GL & HF

Damn son!
I was pretty scared until I noticed something in the bottom pick.
Saggin' your sweatpants, and due to popular belief that means that you want another male (inmate) to stick it in you.
How alpha is that? ;)

Do some real sports instead of hiding in some gym, doing exercises all alone and still claiming you're better than some coach dweller sitting there all alone. :P

What's wrong with lifting alone? It's nice to reflect, if you have a job working with people you get to have murderous thoughts. Ez najs.

Also I call BS on the competitive rower. Olaf Tufte, Norwegian gold medalist rower. Tell dem ain't no bajsepps.

LOL Leshma, thanks. Actually I was never very "strong" or physically impressive, was a sickly kid and always my mind was stronger than my body, even at times when I did my 18000 km cycling "hobo" trip with bicycle and trailer, or was doing extreme hikes in northern Scandinavia.

The past couple years I have done absolutely nothing for my body (except some gardening, hacking some sugar cane with massive 1h machete wpf, playing with the dogs, and the like...) AND had one of those phases where you love to eat crap, lots of crap, so I was fat AND weak a couple month ago.

Started doing systematic calisthenics training (basically following the "Convict Conditioning" course (http://www.spiritualbodytraining.com/loves/convictconditioningproductsearch)) again, and tripled my wall pushups already... ;-)

So expect more impressive pics over the coming years, I will be doing Hermit-Flags by my 50th birthday...

hej,  cool! Loved that region of the world! Been hiking mostly in the Kilpisjärvi/Galgujaure Region ("Border Path of Troms" as it was called back then), and made several trips into the undeveloped areas in Sarek national park, crossing from Gällivare to the Norwegian coast near Fauske, enjoying the barely touched solitude in the less trotten regions there, away from Kungsleden and other "hiking highways"... ;-) Usually went late in fall, when the first snow can be expected, the colors are amazing, and most of the damn moskitos and tourists are gone... LOL

Mostly been up there, some time in Finland, and one trip to the Ostersund region, visiting the Hilleberg tent guys (I worked for the German Outdoor Magazine back then as an editor).

Much nostalghia, hehe - old pic from a magazine article of me roasting/smoking some fresh fish somewhere in Padjelanta National Park.

Ok i'm gonna Edit the poll and run it for another day, i thought i would be able to lvl my character before the vote closes but i've been quite busy.

Poll will run for 1 extra day and all votes are reset, due to some personal messages i've had and fair sport some people have voted wrong and wanted to change but were not able.
So i have made sure the poll has it's proper features and works properly this time.

I have 3million xp left on my alt character and i should be able to lvl before voting ends.

Sorry for the hassle, many Thanks.

Don't forget to vote again!! and votes can be changed now!  :)

Also i have cash prizes for 2nd and 3rd place, it's not much but it's still free money

Sweet, i have yet to do any longer hikes than ones that are one day walks there and back to camp. Kungsleden would be awesome to try out, even though i guess it is kind of the highway which spoils the feeling a little. Had a failed attempt on Kebnekaise which is probably the longest tour i had yet.

Saxon's biceps are as big as an average fifteen year old girl's.
The average girl in Finland has 17+ inch arms? Or are they fat? Must be depressing either way.

Tough times in Finland.  :(
