Archery, nock THEN draw.

I did a quick search and didn't find a suggestion like this posted before, if I missed such a post then go ahead and delete this.

I play mostly as an archer and I must say that I love the slower speed of the bows in cRPG, it is much more realistic and challenging.  But one aspect I find frustrating is when trying to time a shot the delay of selecting an arrow from the quiver and nocking it is constantly factored in.

So my suggestion is to make shooting a bow two sequences instead of one long one.  Sort of like reloading a crossbow, you would have the first sequence of selecting an arrow and nocking it (this would be the longer sequence, obviously), then the second sequence of drawing and losing.

Once an arrow is nocked you would only have to repeat the drawing sequence when timing a shot.  And if you switched weapons while and arrow was nocked you would have to nock an arrow all over again.  (And a possible nerf for this would be when you switch weapons while an arrow is nocked you would drop that arrow).

This would be more realistic and the overall rate of fire for the bows would still be the same.  Just a suggestion, not sure if this would even be possible animation and coding wise.

If you would be able to nock the arrow and continue to run around without having to repeat the initial animation then no. If you are rooted to the spot after the nocking animation then yes. Alas i feel it's probably not possible either way and even if it was i think the devs are probably pre-occupied with more important things.

If you are a lot slower moving around with an arrow nocked, then it sounds like an idea.
I voted Gurnisson cause of his fucking bendy pike, I swear noone can roflcopter stab like he can.

Uhuh, same as if you're holding an attack or blocking with a shield

More like when you move with your bow drawn, or maybe something in between.

I like that idea.  Realistically there is no reason you can't move with a nocked arrow, but running might be awkward.

sounds logical +1

not hardcoded either. Just would require vastly changed animations what in the end wouldnt be worth the effort

If it's possible to put in the game, it makes sense. Nobody in real life would notch an arrow, then put it away, then notch it again, put it away, repeat. (As you see with people holding left click and tapping right click.)

I say go for it. Can't really think of anything negative with this. Firing speed would be the same, only difference would be that a prepared archer is,you, more prepared. Big +1 from Jarlek! (also then the poor archers might have a chance against my lancing!)
This game isn't about being skillful as much as its about saying things in general chat that enrage people who then go to murder you but in their rage they make dumb mistakes which gets them killed.

running with a quiver drawn should have a penalty on speed though

You can keep an arrow nocked with one hand easily, so the moved speed should be the same as when blocking or holding an attack IMO.

Also if you dont know what I mean you hold the bow in the left hand and your index hold the arrow shaft. I have done this with some cheap recurves when I was younger and did some archery.
